The construction circles are not always visible

Question:The construction circles are not always visible in all views. How can I make them visible?Answer:In the view where the construction circleconstruction object that represents a circle is not displayed, you need to:- Fit work areacertain portion of the model that is currently active for working on in a viewTekla Structures indicates the work area using dashed lines. Since objects outside the work area exist but are not visible the user can set a certain sized work area so that the views of the model are simpler and quickly updated, for example. to entire model- Change view

Clash check does not start

Question:Tekla Structures has problem starting the clash-check, and it gives this errors message.Answer:This is because some other software (for example IFCfile format commonly used in BIM that facilitates software interoperabilityIFC is an open specification developed by the IAI (International Alliance for Interoperability).Model can be exported into an IFC file. Viewer) has installed an older version of TKernel.dll to the Windows/System32-folder. Tekla Structures uses newer version of that dll.You should either move that .dll to the same folder where e.g. the IFCViewer .exe is, or

No warning about expiring licenses

Question:I have a combination of permanent and temporary license entitlements, and it happens that there is no warning when license expiring within one month.Answer:The expiry warning message appears only when you take the expiring license into use. Probably there are several permanent licenses (that have been activated first) and some temporary licenses that have been activated after the permanent ones. When somebody starts TS, the system will first take the license which was activated at first. So if the company has let's say 10 permanent and 2 temporary licenses, all 10 licenses must be in

Importing steel model into a concrete model

Question:I have a steel model made with Tekla Structures and I want to import it into my own concrete model. I want to maximize information that is imported.Answer:Copy from another model functionality copies the TS objects as TS objects. In TS menu go to Edit > Copy special > From another Model. You can choose there the model to import. Please note that Copy from another model doesn’t copy for example the attributes, custom components nor the grids, you need to copy the attribute files manually.

Exporting DWF-files from Tekla?

Question:Is it possible to export DWF-files from Tekla? Answer:You can print from Tekla Structures directly to DWF using the DWF writer (which is a printer driver) – when talking about 2D drawing export. The Autodesk DWF Writer you get from Autodesk website.  Another option is to export DWG file from Tekla Structures and then use some converter to create DWF from the DWG file. There should be some free convertors available in the Internet.Design Web Format (DWF) is a secure file format developed by Autodesk for the efficient distribution and communication of rich design data to anyone who

Changing reference model appearance

Question:Is it possible to turn off only the highlighting of a reference modelmodel which the designer can use as an aid when building another modelA reference model is created in Tekla Structures or in other software and can be inserted to Tekla Structures. The reference model appears together with the model but it is not modified by Tekla Structures. The user can snap to reference model points. For example, an architectural model, a plant design model, or a heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) model can be a reference model. in the model viewview that is represented in the

Converting Tekla Structures model to Autodesk Inventor

Question:What is the best way for converting Tekla Structures model to Autodesk Inventor? Answer:Tekla Structures model cannot be exported to Autodesk Inventor directly. At the moment the Tekla STEP IGES converter is the only available free of charge tool for Tekla Structures users to get a STEP or IGES file of a model. There are some limitations: for instance the size of models/files will be rather big and that's causing problems with Mechanical CAD applicationpart of Tekla Structures functionality that is developed in order to extend the capability of Tekla Structures but that is not

Numbering update of copied reinforcement bars

Question:Sometimes reinforcement bars that are copied from one part to the other do not get updated numbers. Why does this happen?Answer:This could happen if someone creates conceptual re-bars with incorrect configuration, e.g. using Steel Detailing configuration in a concrete project. One way to get the rebar numbered is: right-clicking on the rebar (the copy), choose “convert to detailed reinforcement” and it can then be numbered.

Unexpected change of object ID

Question:What would cause the change of object (assembly) ID?Answer:There are some actions which might cause the change of object IDs:- Copy from model: when you copy the same object from another model the duplicate will get new ID number- When changing some child objects of the assembly- It may happen sometimes that IDs of child objects of components change when component is recreatedGUIDs of the objects are not changing when ID  changes.

Basic Firm and Project Folders

What is a Firm folder? Tekla Structures has settings that are defined using .ini files at several levels, including global settings (known as ‘common’), and environment (such as usimp).  There are also many system files which define the standard values that the program uses out-of-the-box.  When you save values in the model for drawing styles, connections, profile and material catalogs, etc., there are files created in the model folderfolder that is used for storing files associated with a modelTekla Structures stores all files associated with a model in a folder it creates with the same

Controlling Default Model Views

This tutorial will show you all the View attributes that you can control to your liking. These are the views settings that are used when you perform a right-click on an object and create views. Please note that you can pick and choose the ones you want. You do not have to do them all. Regardless to which one(s) you do choose, the attribute(s) you save away will always will visible in the View Properties drop-down list. Here are all the View attributes that this tutorial covers. For all of these view attributes, there are 2 critical things that you must follow.1.
