Setting the graphics card to be used

Often laptops come with both integrated graphics card and dedicated graphics card. An integrated graphics card doesn't use its own RAM; it utilizes the system's memory instead, whereas dedicated graphics card has its own independent source of memory. The dedicated graphics card is the more powerful of these two, and you can adjust the graphics card settings to always use the more powerful one in a laptop that has two graphics cards.  These instructions walk through setting the dedicated NVIDIA graphics card to be used by default with Tekla Structures. 1. To check how many graphics cards you

Output linear feet of polygon cuts in model

Q- I need to report out the linear feet for all my polygon cuts in my model, can this be done?  A-Yes, this can be done by creating a report to find the perimeter value of the cuts in the slabplate that represents a concrete structureIn Tekla Structures, a slab is created by picking three or more points.Slab may be part of a floor, for example. Lines are visible on PDF but don't print on paper

Question: When I print from Tekla Structures to PDF, all my lines look fine, but when I print the PDF from AcroPlot Matrix 2014 PDF viewer to paper, some of the lines disappear. This only happens with TS2016, in older versions everything worked. Answer: Please check the XS_BASE_LINE_WIDTH advanced option – in older versions this is set by default to 0.1, but from 2016 onwards it has been set to 0.01 by default. Some PDF printers enforce a minimum line weight, so if a line is very thin, it is displayed thicker on the screen and also when printed, while some PDF printers may allow the line to

How to change bolt mark units from metric to imperial?

Question: We normally work with metric units but now we have a project (model) that uses imperial units. We have managed to switch our drawings to display most things in inches. However the bolt (holesmall hollow open throughout a part or assembly that is usually used for fastening parts with bolts or other such objectsHole is created in the same way as bolts and hole properties are defined in the bolt properties.) marks are still in millimeters. How to turn them to inches as well? Answer: You have two options: 1. If you are using the "Size" attribute in bolt marks to show hole diameters,

How to create Plated Box with Camber?

Please follow below steps to create a plated box with camber. Step 1. – Use polybeampart of a certain shape that is created as a continuous chain of beams passing through points that the user picksThe segments of the polybeam are straight, but segment intersections can be curved. For example, a beam that follows a zigzag line is a polybeam. command to generate 3 point polybeam by selecting Start point, mid-point (center) & End point of beam Step 2. – Now select center handle point of beam by pressing "Alt" key on key board & use move linear command by right clicking.

Internal error in merging model changes. Please contact Tekla Structures support for instructions.

Question:I got this warning that says there is an internal error in merging model changes. Any idea what is happening? Answer:This error relates to multiuser mode, autosave, and using of several Tekla Structures sessions. We have noticed that this error happens in a situation where one user already has one multiuser session running and the same user starts another Tekla Structures session from autosave to the same multiuser model. After doing some changes in the first session and trying to save in both sessions, this error will appear and save is not working any more. At the moment this is

DPM Printer Error when printing and using special characters in your file names

NOTE:This issue was fixed in 2016, if you use a special character that cannot be used in a file name Tekla will convert it to an underscore. For example, if you are using 1" Plate(1) part that represents a flat structure(1) In some contexts, for example in analysis, the term plate object may be used to refer to plates.(2) plate that represents a steel structure(2) Plate is mainly used as a connection piece or as a floor plate..pdf as the file name it will convert it to 1_ Plate.pdf.  Q- I am attempting to print drawings and receving the error below, i do use special characters in the names

XS_HATCH_SPECIAL_COLOR prints grey in TS2016

Question: In Tekla Structures 2016, I've set the XS_HATCH_SPECIAL_COLOR but it still prints as shaded gray. How can I get it to print with the color I've specified?  Answer: This is caused by a defect, but a workaround exists that requires editing the PdfPrintOptions.xml file. Close the print dialog Open up the <user>_PdfPrintOptions.xml file file in notepad, look for a line that starts with:  <PlotColor Color="120", for example: <PlotColor Color="120" PlotColor="00FFFF" /> Delete that line Open the print dialog, and the special color should come out as expected Note that

Stop Windows from restarting Tekla

Q- Each time Tekla crashes Windows Error Reporting displays a message "Tekla Structures has stopped working" and then will attempt to restart Tekla. This causes my startup files to not be read when the restart occurs and I have to just restart again anyway using the correct shortcuts. Can I stop Tekla from restarting when a crash occurs?  A- Tekla does not have any options that will prevent this but in Windows you can turn this off.  Please perform at your own risk or involve your IT Admin before changing anything in the registry. You could change the Disabled keyset in the registry under

Arrange drawing views does not work in multidrawing

Question: When I try to use the command Arrange drawing views in a multidrawingdrawing that gathers together several drawings on one sheetThe individual drawings in a multidrawing may be of any drawing type., it does not work. What is the problem? Answer: The reason is probably that the linked single-part and assembly drawings have fixed views, meaning the Place property is set to Fixed in drawing viewview that includes selected model objects or an area in the model, that is represented in a drawing A drawing view is a container for model and drawing objects.A drawing can include several

Tekla Structures does not start

This is a troubleshooting article about the situation when Tekla Structures does not start after installation. We have collected this from customer cases. If Tekla Structures is crashing right at the startup, these types of crashes are often caused by other software hooking to Tekla Structures. For more information, see this article: Other software hooking to Tekla Structures Sometimes Tekla Structures is crashing silently - you click on the Tekla Structures icon but nothing happens. This can be caused by missing .NET and C++ -packages. See which Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables and .

Creating identical haunches from beam profiles

By default, if a beam is named "HAUNCHcomponent object that represents a wedge-like structure that strengthens a beam at its end" and cut accordingly, the Single-Part Drawingdrawing that shows fabrication information for one part and that is generally used at the workshop of that beam will try to double the haunch, so that two haunches can be manufactured from a single beam. This functionality can be controlled with the advanced setting XS_DRAWING_USE_WORKSHOP_FORM_FOR_DOUBLE_PARTS_IN_SINGLE_PART_DRAWINGS (for more information, see this article). Selecting several handles at once

It is possible to select several handles at once so that they can all be moved in one go.For example the three beams on the right can be extended by the same distance in one go as follows. Select the parts to be modified. Hold down the ALT key and window over the required handles. The selected handles will be represented by a solid square once selected. Now you can right-click and select Move Special Linear, enter the distances to be moved in the X, Y and Z directions and click Move. The same can be done where several handles meet at the same place.
