Tekla Structures 2017 Hardware Recommendations

Recommendations for Tekla Structures workstations Tekla Structures hardware recommendations are based on the set-ups that have been used in testing Tekla Structures and proven to be compatible with Tekla Structures. In addition to the set-ups presented in this document, there are many other suitable set-ups available. You can use this document as a guideline in choosing new hardware, but bear in mind that the equipment and labels presented in this document are not the only suitable hardware set-up. The main criterion when choosing hardware is reliable performance. If you are considering a

Mesh bars - component does not work properly

Q: We have difficulties getting the Mesh bars component working reliably. Meshes disappear and occasionally component can be placed again and occasionally component is there in the element (but showing nothing) and cannot be placed anymore. What to do? A: This is a known bug in 21.0 SR9 and earlier versions. Currently workaround to solve this is to do as follows: Delete the CS.Library.dll from "...\21.0\nt\bin\plugins\Tekla\Drawings\CS.Library.dll".  NOTE! User must not delete dll files with the same name from anywhere else, only from the above mentioned location.

How to export option type UDAs as text string to IFC?

Question: We would like to export option type UDAs as text strings rather than integer values to IFC. Seems that string type option values can't be exported, even if I set property type as string in Property Set Definitions dialog box. Is it really so? Answer: There is a workaround to this issue. You need to change the property type to Template attribute as well. Then the UDA options are exported as text. See the pictures showing an example of common assembly UDA Execution Class property set and the result in Tekla BIMsight:

Numbering not performed for units with conceptual components

Warning: "Numbering not performed for assemblies and precast cast units with conceptual components." "Please check log file for details." Q: From which log file can the detailed information be found? A: Detailed information can be found from Session history log. The parts that are excluded from the numbering can be found by text in the log " A part was excluded from numbering because it belongs to a conceptual component." Also the ID of the part is shown. With ID number of the part user can locate the conceptual components from the model. If the conceptual components are converted to

No DSTV file created for tube with attached part

Question: I have tube profile with attached part and when I try to export the NC file it is not created. Why? Answer: If you check dstv_nc.log, it contains the following error message: ERROR: Tube profile with attached parts detected. Part 123456 will not be exported. There has been problems with NC file export when attached part has been used with tube profiles or with polybeam profiles. At the moment exporting the NC file is prevented for those kind of parts. Other parts with attached parts are still exported OK to NC DSTV file.

Importing Grid from Tekla Structural Designer

Question:  I tried importing a model with grid from Tekla Structural Designer and found that if you open the grid properties the labels are 'DummyGrid3' etc instead of proper labels and the coordinates are not fully defined. If you make any change and modify the grid the appearance changes dramatically altering the model. Is there a solution to this problem? Answer: The integration with Tekla Structures creates individual grid lines rather than a grid pattern. This is due to the complex nature of grid patterns generally used in Tekla Structural Designer and the grid pattern command being

Slabs changed into profiles

Question: I noticed that (concrete) slabs in my model had turned into profiles. When I opened the slab properties and tried to change the slab thickness I got an error message saying that "The profile is not in your profile catalog. Select a new profile." What's wrong? Answer: This behaviour is caused by a profile catalog with profile names containing only numbers, such as "800", "1000" etc. Even though slabs (or contour plates) normally don't accept profiles as input, in this particular case they did. This is because "thickness" is the counterpart of "profile" for slabs and contour plates

Defect prevents some Tekla Model Sharing users from synchronizing

We have identified a defect that prevents some 2016/2016i users to synchronize with the sharing service. To overcome the problem, we have released a hotfix, which is available for download immediately. The problem is caused by Tekla Structures trying to share a file that shouldn’t be shared at all. The hotfix recognizes this file to be excluded from sharing. Should I apply the hotfix? You are facing the problem, if you are using Tekla Structures 2016 or 2016i and Can create and share a new blank model, but Cannot share/read in/write out a specific model, and modelsharing.log has ERROR:
