What is Tsep File Dispatcher Launcher?

Q: What is Tsep File Dispatcher Launcher? What does it do? Why is it installed as part of Tekla Structures? A:  Tsep File Dispatcher Launcher associates .tsep (tekla structures extension package) file type to Tekla Structures. When this little software is installed, Windows has the needed tools and it knows what to do when user double clicks a .tsep file. When user double clicks a .tsep file C:\Program Files\Tekla File Dispatcher\TsepFileDispatcherLauncher.exe is launched. It is an application which scans through registry to check the latest installed Tekla Structures version. It will then

How to get a borrowed license into use

Q: The user has borrowed a license and is currently working from the home office. He has also a VPN connection on. For some reason, he is consuming one "extra" license from company servers. His borrowed license is not used. A: The user should start Tekla Structures before connecting to VPN. As Tekla Structures is looking for a license from the previous location by default, it will find the license from the company servers and ignore the borrowed license, and that is why he is consuming two licenses. After Tekla Structures has started, the user can start his VPN connection. For more

Can I import a NWD file to Tekla Structures?

Question: Can I import a .nwd format file to Tekla Structures? Answer: Unfortunately, you cannot import NWD files to Tekla Structures.  When it comes to interoperability between Naviswork and Tekla Structures, files tend to be exported from Tekla Structures to Naviswork. The available formats are IFC, CIS/2, DWG, DXF and IGES. You can find more information about Autodesk Navisworks online.

Unable to run numbering or create drawing in shared model.

If we join the shared model in different environment other than the actual environment in which the model was created, then we cannot run numbering or generate detailed drawings because the catalogs (material / profile / reinforcement) will list the libraries from the actual environment in which the model was created and shared. In such case we need to close the model without 'Writing Out' or saving and re-open it with correct environment.  Before opening the shared model we can check the environment that the model belongs to under shared model list, as shown below.  Further when we try to

Multi-user server name change in all model

Question: When changing the server name of the multi-user server, is there an easy way to update all models to the new server without having to open each model and specify server name? Answer:  When you have a multiuser model, Tekla Structures creates a file in the model folder called .This_is_multiuser_model. If you open this file in a text editor, it contains the following information:                          tcpip:<servername>,<serverport>                          <multiuser server database directory>                           This is a multiuser model

Tapered washer possibility in Tekla Structures

Question: Is there any possibility to model tapered washers for bolts in Tekla Structures? Answer: There is no direct way to model tapered washers in Tekla Structures. As a workaround, you can select the tapered washer option in the bolt properties (see below). With this option in use, you will see the washer as flat only and not tapered, but you can report it using reports.     You can add the tapered washer in the bolt catalog (see the images below).   You can use report to find out the quantity of the tapered washers in the model (see the images below). Sample report is attached herewith

How to export phase number and name to IFC

Question: How to export phase number and name to a one attribute in IFC export? Answer: If you clear the Layer names as part names option at the Advanced tab of the IFC export dialog box, then the phase number and name combination is written to the Layer attribute. The part name is shown as Product Name in BIMsight. If the Layer names as part names option is checked then the part name, like “COLUMN” in the example above, is written to the Layer attribute.   Even if you would keep the part names as layer names, you can also add phase name and number as additional properties to the IFC

What is the significance of "Publish in Catalog" that we get when we right click any component in model.

It helps to have some standard components with different settings published to a catalog with different name, like for example Base plate (1004) with L rods and Base plate (1004) with straight rods. To use > double click any connection component in model > save required settings > Right click the componen > select publish in catalog > save with custom name.            Example:    Check the below link to know about "Publish a Group in Application and Components" https://teklastructures.support.tekla.com/2017/en/det_publish_a_group_in_applications_and_components_catalog
