Tapered washer possibility in Tekla Structures

Question: Is there any possibility to model tapered washers for bolts in Tekla Structures? Answer: There is no direct way to model tapered washers in Tekla Structures. As a workaround, you can select the tapered washer option in the bolt properties (see below). With this option in use, you will see the washer as flat only and not tapered, but you can report it using reports.     You can add the tapered washer in the bolt catalog (see the images below).   You can use report to find out the quantity of the tapered washers in the model (see the images below). Sample report is attached herewith

Support tool removed from user interface

Because of several problems support tool has not worked reliably enough and some customer cases might have been ignored. We have removed support tool command from 2017, 2016i SP4 and 2016 SP7 versions user interface by default. Some known problems are: too big zip file size causes the compression to fail (4 GB limit) company firewall might block the sending japanese, chinese or other special characters in file/folder might cause the decompression to fail on server and notification and corfimation emails are not sent too many included files makes notification message to support too long and it

How to export phase number and name to IFC

Question: How to export phase number and name to a one attribute in IFC export? Answer: If you clear the Layer names as part names option at the Advanced tab of the IFC export dialog box, then the phase number and name combination is written to the Layer attribute. The part name is shown as Product Name in BIMsight. If the Layer names as part names option is checked then the part name, like “COLUMN” in the example above, is written to the Layer attribute.   Even if you would keep the part names as layer names, you can also add phase name and number as additional properties to the IFC

Centralized distribution of Tekla Structures 2017

Introduction Tekla Structures consists of the following installations: Tekla Structures software installation  Tekla Structures environment installation Localized environments include your country-specific codes and standards.   Installing Tekla Structures software and environments one by one on each user’s computer is a time consuming task in large companies, and therefore, Tekla Structures is often installed in a centralized manner across company workstations. This article clarifies the basic principles of building a centralized installation for the Tekla Structures installation package

What is the significance of "Publish in Catalog" that we get when we right click any component in model.

It helps to have some standard components with different settings published to a catalog with different name, like for example Base plate (1004) with L rods and Base plate (1004) with straight rods. To use > double click any connection component in model > save required settings > Right click the componen > select publish in catalog > save with custom name.            Example:    Check the below link to know about "Publish a Group in Application and Components" https://teklastructures.support.tekla.com/2017/en/det_publish_a_group_in_applications_and_components_catalog

Can we convert Tekla Rebar Model to nws format?

For interoperability between Navisworks and Tekla Structures files tend to be exported from Tekla Structures to Navisworks and the available formats are in a level of importance are - IFC, CIS/2, DWG, DXF and IGES. To get the rebar visible in Navisworks & Revit, use the IFC Export from Tekla Structures and use export type "Surface geometry" (format for viewing and clash checking) on the Parameters tab, and select "Reinforcing bars" on the Advanced tab.      You can view the 'filename'.log file after exporting to see the number of rebar groups exported with IFC file.      IFC file:

Saving a custom component with new name resets the dialog contents.

This happen because of the creation of new input file in "CustomComponentDialogFiles" Folder in Model Folder. The file name will be "NewComponentName".inp file. We can open the file with NotePad to check the content. After saving a custom component with new name, to retain the same dialog properties as old one, we have to copy all the content from the "OldComponentName".inp file to "NewComponentName".inp > Save the file and reopen the model.  However we can use Custom Component Dialog Editor to edit further with more ease.  To keep this input file unchanged in future, either we have to

Rotating all reinforcement marks 90 degrees using the Align Leader Line tool is difficult and rotating merged marks is not possible

We can record a macro to rotate reinforcement marks. After recording, we can select all marks at once and run the macro to rotate them. The same feature will be enhanced in the Align Leader Line tool. As of now, do the following: In the menu on the Applications & components catalog, select Record macro > Global... Name the macro and click OK. Right-click the reinforcement mark to open the reinforcement mark properties. On the General tab, set Rotation to 90. Click Modify. Then, click OK. Click Stop recording.    To rotate the merged bar mark, the Rotation option is available from

Rebar length precision in Inquire report is different for group bars and individual bar.

If we inquire straight rebar group, the individual bar length is shown with fraction. The same if ungrouped and inquired, the length shown as round value. This is because SINGLEREBAR row type is used and the Length is kept fraction to identify the varying bar lengths for tapered group bars. However we can insert another REBAR row with below rule, to get the individual bar length with round value. Attached the modified report file. Using this, the precision will be same for both grouped and ungrouped straight bars for Normal Rebar Group type.

Need to swap polybeam bent plate length & width in bill of material

Question: We have modeled a bent plate as a polybeam (see below). In the bill of material, we are want the width of the bent plate in the length column & vice versa.    Answer: The above requirement can be achieved by modifing the Bill of Material template. In the template, for the Profile & Length value fields, use the below formulas. Profile:-  if (GetValue("IS_POLYBEAM") == "1") && (GetValue("PROFILE_TYPE") == "B") then   PL+format( GetValue("WIDTH"),"Length" ,"inch-frac" ,1/16)+"*"+format( GetValue("LENGTH"),"Length" ,"inch-frac" ,1/16) else   GetValue("PROFILE")

How to set a license server address without using the Tekla Structures user interface

You can easily define or change the license server address of host computers in the Tekla Structures user interface. But in some cases, you might need to do it without starting Tekla Structures, like when you distribute Tekla Structures on a lot of new computers. Here are some alternative ways: Windows Registry You can set the Server registry string value to the license server address, for example 27007@my_company_server. The value is located in the following registry key: Tekla Structures 21.1 or older - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tekla\License Tekla Structures 2016-2018i -

Tekla Structures Base point for coordination with Autodesk Revit

Design coordination with Autodesk Revit will require two different Base points in Tekla Structures: one for export and one for import. Export from Tekla Structures to Autodesk Revit When an IFC file is linked into Revit, the files are placed at Revit Origin point (Revit model 0), not according to the base point. To get a Tekla Structures IFC model correctly placed in Revit, you need to know the offset between the Revit origin point and the Tekla Structures origin point. 1. How to find the Revit origin point a. Start by writing down the location of the Base point. Then make sure that the Base
