Defining file menu switches

This article provides information on how to set the "Switches" using configuration files and Windows registry. For example, user can toggle these switches as preferred from Tekla Structures User Interface File Menu -> Settings -> Switches Model side Drawing side But these settings are also possible to be set or predefined using the following files and Windows registry keys: By default xs_user.default is stored and, when a model is created, loaded from ..\ProgramData\Trimble\Tekla Structures\2019.0\Environments\common\systemAfter the model is saved, these settings are saved in

Rotating a revision template vertically

Question: How can we rotate a revision template vertically as shown below?   Answer: See this attached sample portrait template for an example. You can see this template in use in this attached model folder. Refer to drawing C6, which uses the rotated revision template. To place it as per your cell dimension, attach the template to your drawing layout at the desired location. Then insert the actual width required in Template page properties (as shown below) and provide the number of columns using the Min. count and Max. count fields. You may need to play a bit with the values while

How to Import DWF file in Tekla Structures

Question: We have receievd DWF file from our client. How we can import it or insert it as reference file in Tekla Structures?  Answer: There are online tools available to convert DWF->> DWG (http://www.cadforum.cz/cadforum_en/formats.asp?fmtin=9&fmtout=1). This tool offers a combination of DWF import to Autodesk Navisworks, and using the FBX format to transfer the 3D data from Navisworks to AutoCAD. You can use a similar way to take the CAD model also to other CAD software. Please note that DWF is only a publishing format and the resulting converted CAD model will not have the

How to model Rebar shape with curved and straight legs combined.

We can model Rebar with both curved and straight legs by controlling the curved portion by modifying Bending Radius as required in Reinforcement properties and controlling the straight legs with standard Beding Radius. The same procedure can be followed to model Rebar with multiple legs and mutiple radius of curvature. You can enter a separate value for each bar bend. Separate the values with spaces. We can also use New Rebar Set (From version 2016i onwards) to model these shapes easily.  See Also: Reinforcing bar properties: https://teklastructures.support.tekla.com/2017/en/

How to log out from Trimble Identity in Tekla Structures?

Question: When I sign in to Tekla Structures (2017 and onwards) using the Trimble Identity, there is no option to log out. If I click on my user name in Tekla Structures I can only "Open my profile". How to log out?   Answer: The functionality has been changed starting from Tekla Structures 2017. If you see only the option to "Open my profile", that means that you will be automatically logged out when you exit the software. This happens because you did not check the "Stay signed in" checkbox when you signed in with your Trimble Identity account.   If you check the "Stay signed in"

Failed to write out model changes. Failed to create data.

Q: Our Tekla Model Sharing Write out is failing and we received this error message. What could be the reason? A: There might be several reasons, but this might be caused by long path of the Temp directory (Windows' default location is already quite long). Change the setting XS_SHARING_TEMP to really short (for example, C:\sharing). We have also identified an issue with profile names containing diameter symbols (Ø). If a model contains parts (or cuts) created with such profiles write out cannot be done. At the moment you need to modify your profile catalog and go through the whole model and

Error while inserting DWG file as reference

Question: We are not able insert reference CAD file size more than 200MB in to TEKLA model, when we inserted such file it is getting aborted without any error message. Answer: It is happening due to the fact that CAD file is too heavy. So if you are successful in inserting reference file, then do not switch on all layers at once. Try switching on one or few layers at a time from Reference files > Layers. If still fails, then other workaround is, instead of inserting it as one single file, try to segregate it into several CAD files, layer wise and try inserting each file. (Each file

How to model Rebar for elliptical or oval shaped members.

There are several methods to model reinforcement for unusual geometies like elliptical/ circular members. Generally we can use multiple pick points to model Rebar along the elliptical edge. For verticals, we can use tools like Rebar Polar Array (from Tekla Warehouse) or manual rebar modeling method with Tapered curved bar group settings. Below video contains some example (done in Tekla Structures 2017). Model (Indian Environment) attached for reference. my FLAT bars are appearing with metric thickness and metric length how do I correct this.

I wanted to call out my flat plate profiles as FLAT3/8X3"1/2. When I enter the prefix FLAT as my flat profile prefix all my flat bars in my drawings appear as FLAT9.525X88.9 but the length is correct how do I correct this?   Answer: Tekla does not recognize the prefix FLAT. You will need to define this prefix in the file called profitab.inp. Here is a link that explains how to add a new profile to the profitab.inp file.https://teklastructures.support.tekla.com/2017/en/mod_adding_profile_def...

What is the effect of changing the cut length in Bolt Properties?

Question: What is the effect of changing the Cut length in Bolt Properties? Answer: The Cut length defines the distance Tekla Structures should search for parts that belong to the bolt group. Parts that are outside the cut length will not be connected by the bolt. If the cut length is A, the search distance is A/2 in both directions from the bolt origin. Example The following example shows the effect of different Cut length settings on a bolt placed between the steel parts shown below. The location of the bolt origin is on the plane between the two parts.    The cut length is centred on

Why has the colour of the bolts changed?

Question: Why has the colour of the bolts changed? Answer: When bolts are displayed by class they appear brown (as shown above), so if under Object Representation the Color is set to Color by class for All objects, including bolts, the bolts will appear brown. The colour of objects is set in the Object Representation dialog box (see Color settings for object groups).   If bolts are not included in the group that is set to Color by class the bolts could be displayed as a different colour. Example This can happen if, for example, the Object Group - Representation for All objects is

Why does my Tekla Structures not show Wire Frame?

To clarify, in Tekla Structures "Wire Frame" has two different technical meanings: ‘Wire frame view type’ – This is the old wire frame feature which Tekla Structures no longer supports, and this is in question here. ‘Wire frame view representation’ – This is the view representation you get when you hit Ctrl + 1.   In 2010 it was determined that the performance and functionality of 3D views in plan orientation were sufficient that there was no longer a benefit to the ‘wire frame view type’, so in version 17 the ‘wireframe view type’ option became a hidden feature and Tekla Structures ceased

Cold rolled steel systems within Tekla Structures models

Working in conjunction with the largest cold rolled steel manufacturers in the UK we have created tools to allow Tekla Structures models to utilise each of their cold rolled systems. These tools are designed to work with each specific manufacturer's rules, helping to ensure the model meets the requirements of the specific manufacturer. Intelligent joints/macros allow rapid modelling and updating of cold rolled accessories, following as close as possible the system limitations. Most manufacturers have a File Transfer that allows you to check the validity of the cold rolled items before
