The selected assembly seems to be a custom part. It is strongly recommended to add this assembly as custom part to the assembly. Do you want to add the assembly as custom part?

Question: I try to connect a steel assembly to another assembly as a sub-assembly, but I get this message even if I don't have custom parts or custom components in the selected assembly. What this means and what should I answer? Answer: You should just answer Yes and select the Do not show this message again option. Especially in steel assemblies there is no difference which option you select, end result will always be the same, the selected assembly is attached as sub-assembly to the assembly. Message is appearing always when there are components (system or custom) in the selected sub-

Location of custom component data

Question: Where is my custom component saved? Answer: All custom components are saved in file xslib.db1 under the model folder. It contains all the information about the components except for the dialogs - they are saved separately in CustomComponentDialogFiles-folder under the model folder. To copy a custom component to another model see Import and export custom components See also Model folder files and file name extensions

How to filter the old folded plates within your model?

There used to be an old command to model folded plates within Tekla Structures which is diffrent than the polybeam or the new bent plate. This folded plate still exisit in some components and can show up in certain cases. Basically if you want to filter this type of plates then you need to rely on the profile type and change it into a uniqe type for this plate type, below are the steps to do that: Find the file by_number.ail inside tekla structures messages folder Go to message 599 Change the letter "B" into a new unique letter(s), let’s say "FB"  Save the file and restart tekla structures

Why bolts holes modeled on the same web coming in different BO block for the CC profiles?

In some cases bolts holes modeled on the same web for the CC profiles come in different BO block due to the rotation which is given to the bolts. For the example below the rotation is similar: And below is the DSTV output: When the rotation is not similar:

How are units defined in imported DWG files in Tekla Structures?

Tekla Structures reference model import must apply a dimension (m, ft, etc.) to the numeric values of the imported model. Unfortunately DWG does not exactly specify the dimension of the modeling units. DWG has a parameter called "INSUNITS" (please see Autocad documentation for details), which specifies a drawing-units value for automatic scaling of blocks, images, or xrefs when inserted or attached to a drawing. If 'INSUNITS' is found, the reference model import respects that, and applies the necessary scaling to convert the imported DWG model into the Tekla Structures model units. If the

Sharing service login failed

Question: When I try to log in to model sharing service, I get the error "Sharing service login failed". What can be the reason for this? Answer: One possible reason is that there is no model sharing license available. There is also approximately three hour time delay required to release a model sharing license when you are for example moving from one computer to another or when some other user is starting to use the model sharing license. If you have multiple computers, you reserve a license on each device. Tekla Structures extension manager shows Invalid signature error for the tsep packages with expired certificate

We have an expired certificate issue with extensions created and published before 8.1.2018. You cannot install those extensions through Tekla Structures extension manager. If you try to import/install them through the Tekla Structrues extension manager the following Invalid signature error is shown: Unable to import the selected extension as the package signature is invalid. We are fixing the issue for the next service packs of 2016 and newer versions, but meanwhile the following workarounds should be used to install  the tsep files: Download the extension from the Warehouse. Checking reinforcement in a model

Question: Is there a quick way of checking reinforcement in a model? Answer: Yes. The following example will take you through a quick and easy way to check the reinforcing in the model using the Organizer. Example Open your Tekla Structures model, for this example we are inserting the rebars to the cast unit. Open Organizer, Manage > Organizer You will be propted to sychronize Organizer with the model. Click Synchronize If you do not already have a category for Cast Unit, create a new one. See also: Create a property category in Organizer Use the Material – Cast in place concrete

Dwg export filename does not match plot filename

Since the introduction of the new DWG/DXF Exporter in version 2017I, it can happen that the dwg filename of an exported drawing is incorrect to the setting in advanced options. If this happens you can use the %TPL:<template attribute>% to get the correct file name. The attribute should have the correct attribute name according to Tekla Structures. Attribute names can be checked in contentattributes_global.lst in ../Tekla Structures/<version>/nt/TplEd/settings For example: If you want the project number in the file name. Adding %TPL:PROJECT.NUMBER% will be tracked by Print

Why Tekla Structures Doesn't Remember My Trimble Identity Login Details?

Question: Why does Tekla Structures keep asking me to sign into my Trimble account during each session? Answer: First, you want to make sure you have ticked the stay signed in box, as pictured below. You may also want to navigate to your internet options, to check your cookie settings. The location may vary between different operating systems. To ensure that cookies are allowed, you can add Trimble.com to the list of allowed websites through Privacy → Sites → Address of website. Automatically update your shared model

Using BIM Publisher extension it is possible to automate some tasks. Like for example make your shared model updated before you come to office. This example shows how to make a setup which automatically opens your shared model, makes read in, saves the model and exits Tekla Structures every day 6:00. You need to install BIM Publisher extension from Tekla Warehouse BIM Publisher Download also the following example macro from the same page as BIM publisher: Model Sharing Read in and Save (2016+) This is just a file ReadInSave2016.cs containing macro, you can save it to somewhere easily

Modifying component is not working

If you try to modify component and your settings are not affecting the component, try to change AutoDefaults rules to None at the General tab. AutoDefaults settings might prevent for example that you cannot modify bolt assembly (washers, nuts) or move the bolts the distance you want. Components also typically have some order of settings. Some settings are "stronger" than the other. When you enter some values at the Picture or Parts tab, they usually have higher priority than values at the Bolts tab, so they will override the bolt edge distances etc. So if for example bolt dimensions are not

Add text in subscript

Question: How to add text in subscript? Answer: At the moment (starting from Tekla Structures 2017) subscript text is supported only in rich text files (.rtf) in drawings. Superscript, on the other hand, is supported in all text objects, dimension marks, other marks and associative notes. More information on the links below. CompileError: Access to the path is denied when trying to run a macro

Problem: When I try to run a macro I get a following error message: "Access to the path is denied." This occurred when launching macros such as "SwapHandles" and "CreateSurfaceView". Solution: Check that you have user access and execute rights set to the folder and files where the macro is located. For example SwapHandles and CreateSurfaceView are located in C:\ProgramData\Tekla Structures\<version>\Environments\common\macros\modeling\. Please refer to Microsoft Windows documentation for more details.

.db1_CORRUPT file

Question: I have a .db1_CORRUPT file in my model folder. What should I do? Answer: If Tekla Model Sharing write out fails, the currently open model may be marked as corrupt. The .db1 file in the model folder is renamed to .db1_CORRUPT. The model has become unusable. Please remove the model and join again the shared model in Tekla Model Sharing. The write out succeeded to upload data but the finalizing write out failed, so there should not be any information loss. If you are facing this issue, please report it to your local support. Exporting VOID parts to IFC

Question: How can I export VOID parts from Tekla Structures to IFC? Answer:  Use Coordination view 1.0 for IFC export. It exports the openings as "voids" that can be reported on. You cannot use Coordination view 2.0. It uses CSG (constructive solid geometry), where cuts are boolean operations. More information about CSG (Constructive Solid Geometry) can be found here for example here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructive_solid_geometry The type of export is defined in the Export to IFC dialog > Export type:
