Setting Tekla Model Sharing to work through a proxy

Question: I would like to know how to configure TS so that the Model Sharing feature can work through a company’s proxy. There doesn’t seem to be any setting to configure TS so that It can work through a proxy. Answer: If all the http(s) communication is routed through a http proxy that requires authentication, the following http proxy related settings must be added to the settings in the TeklaStructures.exe.config file located in the TeklaStructures\<Version>/nt/bin folder. Note: Set the correct http proxy hostname and port depending on the actual environment. <?xml version ="1.0

Convert NC files to DXF

In Tekla Structures you can convert NC files to DXF files to drive plasma cutters and other cutting devices. In the converted DXF files, all superfluous information, such as dimension lines, is removed. Only the profile (cutting) contour, the position of the holes and text which can be adjusted, is included in the DXF file. Scribing information depends on the conversion tool you use. The DXF file contains only one side of the profile. For converting NC files to DXF files, you can use the following tools:   File Construsoft.def is used Scribing information included File dstv2dxf.bat (stored

Modelling rebar in a culvert base

Question: How can I model rebar in a culvert base? Answer: The following example will take you through the process of modelling the rebar step-by-step.    Example The dimensions of the culvert box are 15500mm x 5500mm Place the starter bars We will start by placing the starter bars from the kickers in the B1 layer. When modelling rebar it is best practice to model all the ranges in the same direction and use flexible last space to prevent odd spacing clashes. From Concrete tab, hold Shift and select Rebar button. The Rebar groupgroup of reinforcing bars that are side by side and have

Create countersunk set screws without nuts or washers

Question: Is it possible to have a countersunk set screw in my model? I need my bolt without nuts or washers. Answer: Yes, there's a way to create countersunk set screws without nuts or washers. Bolts in Tekla Structures are created with a nut as part of the default process and the difficulty is that if the nut is deselected when creating the bolt, the bolt head will also be compromised and will not display. What we need to do is to effectively create both a dummy nut and a dummy washer to mislead Tekla Structures into thinking that both a nut and washer are actually part of the bolt

What is the license server address?

Question: Tekla Structures asks for a license server address when it starts, what do I enter? Answer: You or the Tekla Structures administrator in your organization must install the license server on a server computer in your network (so that it can be used by many users) or on the same computer as Tekla Structures (if you do not need to share the license). If you have not 1) installed the license server and 2) activated your license, do so now. If you installed Tekla Structures and the license server on the same computer, the system automatically uses the license server on the computer when

Custom tab definition is not read from firm folder

Question:  I defined company custom tab in ribbon, but it seems not to be read from firm folder. I defined the XS_FIRM folder in the Advanced options in my model. Answer: The XS_FIRM definition in advanced options is made on model level and is too late for custom tab to be initialized, even if for many other functionalities that is totally OK. You need to define the XS_FIRM in ini file which is read before model opening. For example in user.ini, teklastructures.ini, project.ini or in company.ini.   See alsoSave and share custom ribbon tabDistribute custom tabs using a firm or environment

Unnecessary drawing flags when changing phase

We have found a critical issue in Tekla Structures 2018 version that we want you to be aware of. Possibility to compare phase in numberingprocess of assigning position numbers to parts, cast units, assemblies, or reinforcementIn Tekla Structures, the position numbers assigned in the numbering are shown in marks and templates, for example. is a new option in Tekla Structures 2018. Now we noticed that it causes unnecessary update flags for drawings, even if phase is not selected to be affecting numbering in the Numbering Setup. In Model Sharing a change of phase is now causing a report of

Remove unwanted text frames from DWG exports

The new DWG export tool sometimes adds extra frames around text. The reason is a non-zero value for wipeoutframe setting in the template DWG that was used for defining the layer rules. Change the value to zero to remove the frames in the exported drawing. To prevent the frames from appearing in future exports, change the value already in the template drawing. To change the value in AutoCAD, type command WIPEOUTFRAME and assign 0 as the value for the variable.

Use old properties dialog boxes to modify the properties of parts

In Tekla Structures 2018 part properties can be managed with the property pane. If you still want to use the old property dialog boxes to edit your beams, columns, slabs, etc. you can open the dialog boxes with two different commands: CTRL + double-click on the part. Select the part in the model, then use the command CTRL + double-click to open the old property dialog box.  Using Quick Launch command. By typing e.g. properties,  Concrete column properties, slab properties, steel beam properties, etc. you can quick launch the old property dialog boxes.

How to adjust plotter margins?

Question: I have a plotter with 610 mm roll width. I try to print A1 portrait (594 mm x 841 mm). The plotter cuts the paper too small. As a result a part of the drawing is not visible. How to fix this? Answer: These settings in the plotter Printing Preferences dialog might help: Select option "Remove Top/Bottom Blank Areas" Select option "Oversize (Full bleed)" Select paper size "Oversize: ISO A1" Note: Different plotters need different settings. For custom papers, you need to add the paper size to the plotter settings, in order to Tekla Structures find the size when you select Paper

Concrete elements are missing from the exported IFC file

Problem: When I export concrete elements to IFC using the selected objects option, some objects are missing from the file. There doesn't seem to be any clear logic which objects are missing. Solution: This may seem somewhat illogical but do not select any rebars in the model view when exporting to IFC. Then you should be able to export all the selected elements. The easiest way to ensure that no rebars are selected is to hide the Reinforcing bars from the Display settings. When you select the option Reinforcing bars on the Advanced tab of the Export to IFC dialog box, all the rebars connected

How to open side pane windows without stacking them

When opening a new window in the side pane, the windows stack on top of each other by default. To open a single window in the side pane, hold down the ctrl key while clicking the button. The selected window fills the side pane, closing other open side pane windows. Note that the side pane remains unchanged if the opened window is either floating or docked at the bottom docking area. If there are multiple windows docked at the bottom, the ctrl + click command works similarly for the bottom area windows.

How to use file_in and file_out value types for user-defined attributes

Question: In the objects.inp what do file_in and file_out can do? How do you use it? Can I use this to automatically open let's say a pdf file? Or it just saves the path you browsed? Whats the difference between the two? Answer: Both of the fields are string attributes. They are saving the path to the file, and not actually opening the file. The file_in and file_out attributes create the actual field to show the path and additionally a three dot button, which is opening the basic browse window, where you can select the path and file. Same syntax is used in system components inp

BIMsight Model to Trimble Connect

You can follow the below process in order to transfer BIMsight models to new Trimble Connect platform: Open Tekla BIMsight Select project and then "Save as Package". See below snapshot.   Rename .tbp extension to .zip and then open archive using e.g.. 7-Zip tool. Files needed in Trimble Connect are stored in "files" folder, see below snapshot.    Unfortunately IFC file names are like this "e8b94a9b-525a-4812-9c95-0720e7e60f36.ifc" so you need to import those files to Connect to see their content. After that you can rename them more suitable manner. Now, you will have files in Trimble Connect
