Is it possible to see which kind of licenses are used by different users?

Question: Is it possible to see which kind of licenses are currently used by different users? Answer: Yes, there is a way to do that. But you have to use command lines. Unable to connect to Tekla Structures license server when using Microsoft DirectAccess

Question: I can’t connect to our license server when I’m using Microsoft DirectAccess. First, there seems to be no problem in the connection to the server machine. Second, I have this problem only when I’m using DirectAccess. What is the reason to this problem and what can I do to fix it?Answer: The connection is probably using IPv4, when it needs to be using IPv6. You can configure the licensing system to use IPv6 for hostname resolution by setting the environmental variable FNP_IP_PRIORITY=6 in Windows. To do this: 1. Search for “environment variable” and select Edit the system environment

Model sharing and firm folder

Question: How to set up a firm folder in a company that has offices in different locations? Each location has its own firm folder on its own server and the locations work in the same Tekla Model Sharing model. What to do when there are changes in firm files? Answer: You can only give one location for the XS_FIRM advanced option, so multiple path definitions are not possible. However, the XS_FIRM advanced option is of MODEL(SYSTEM) type, which is not moved to other users when writing out/reading in. This means that you can use your local path, and these can be different between offices. So,

Join_sharing_in_progress

Question: I cannot join to a model sharing model. Only xxx.Join_sharing_in_progress file is stored in the local model folder. When opening that file, there is text “If this file exists, model is corrupt.” What causes the problem? Answer: That xxx.Join_sharing_in_progress is created as a first file in the local folder during joining to a shared model. If it remains there, something has gone wrong during joining, so then the local model is handled as corrupted. We have had cases where for example anti-virus software or some other software interferes the file copying and causes this file to be

How to disable my Support Tool from opening automatically?

Question: My support tool opened in several windows while I was working in Tekla Structures. Why did this happen and can I prevent Support Tool from opening automatically? Answer: Since 2016i there has been a feature that automatically opens the Contact support tool when unhandled exceptions occur. This allows you to send the error messages and the model you are working on to your local support office for investigation of the problem. We have been reported about issues where multiple Support Tool windows open at the same time making it impossible to send any error messages to support or to

Random crash or freeze of Tekla Structures

We have received several reports of random crashes or freezeto prevent Tekla Structures from updating annotation objects and certain drawing view properties in a drawing when it updates the drawing as the model changesWhen a drawing is frozen, only part geometry is updated when the model changes.-states of Tekla Structures, especially related to versions 2018 and 2018i. Those seem to occur very randomly, although such problems were identified more often after the latest Microsoft Windows update (version 1803) has been installed. How can I define my own hatch patterns?

Question: I would like to add my own hatch pattern to the available hatch patterns for drawing fills. How can I do this? Answer: You will need to edit the hatch_types1.pat file. The default location for this file is ...\TeklaStructures\<version>\Environments\common\inp. For some environments it is also located in ...\TeklaStructures\<version>\Environments\<environment>\inp. In these cases XS_INP  has been used to define the folder from which this file is read. For example, in the US Imperial environment the following line exists in env_US_imperial.ini: set XS_INP=%XSDATADIR

Sketch editor profiles in firm folder & profile catalog

Question: How to add a sketch editor profile to your firm folder & profile catalog? Answer: When you created a Sketch editor profile, the profile is not located in the profile catalog of the model but in the xslib.db1 file of the model. To export the profile go to profile catalog in Menu >> Catalogs >> Profile catalog and export the profile. The profile will be exported as an .uel file. If you want to use this profile in the firm or project folders, copy the .uel file in any location in the firm folder or project folder (e.g. C:\Firm\User_profiles_uel). Set the advanced

How to fix the positioning of your parametric .clb-profiles

Question: My profile's positioning does not work correctly. What to do? Answer: When creating profiles in .clb format there are 2 main issues that affect the positioning: The profile has to be divined centered to its neutral axis, to ensure the profile rotates around its reference line. To enable On plane & At depth positioning of the profile you have to include "b" & "h" parameters.  Example 1: When I set On plane to down the profile and its reference line are not touching, even when Plane offset = 0.00 mm. Solution: In the picture above you see the profile CORBEL_A. When you open

Deleting history in model sharing project

Question: I have a model sharing project with many users and history.db file is really large, it is over 1 GB. Do you have some good guidelines how the history could be deleted in a big project? Answer: Large history data can really affect the model performance also in model sharing models. So it is good to consider whether it is really needed and delete if not. But deleting the history is not straight forward process and requires some planning. It is not enough that just one user changes the advanced option XS_CLEAR_MODEL_HISTORY to TRUE. Changing this options requires restarting Tekla

Component not created

Question: What could be the reason when some components are coming in red cone & the DOS window is not getting created? So for example steel1.exe process is not running when looking in Windows Task Manager. Answer: There might problem that if the model is locating in very long path, the component is not created. Model name and path got some limitations since Tekla Structures 2016 version, but it is still possible to copy model to another location with very long path. Try moving the model to a shorter path. Model name maximum length is 40 characters and 140 characters for path.
