To clarify, in Tekla Structures "Wire Frame" has two different technical meanings:
  1. Wire frame view type’ – This is the old wire frame feature which Tekla Structures no longer supports, and this is in question here.
  2. Wire frame view representation’ – This is the view representation you get when you hit Ctrl + 1.

In 2010 it was determined that the performance and functionality of 3D views in plan orientation were sufficient that there was no longer a benefit to the wire frame view type, so in version 17 the wireframe view type option became a hidden feature and Tekla Structures ceased support and development of the feature. It has however remained available to users of v17 and v18, behind an Advanced Option switch.

In v19.0 there is a defect which renders wire frame view type virtually useless. Since Tekla Structures do not plan to develop wireframe to make it usable, it is better to be removed than to keep a broken feature which will not be fixed in any future version. If there is practical benefit to ‘wire frame view type’ that is not available with the rendered view Wire frame view representation, please advise your local help desk. Your local support department will add the requests to develop the rendered views further to have some of the missing features of wire frame view type.

The reason is that the wireframe is based on a different technology than the rendered view. Removing this feature is part of our continuous effort in evolving Tekla Structures. To mimic similar experience, you can set the view background to black in Advanced options and use the Wireframe mode of the rendered view (Ctrl+1).
