Tekla Structures Download, Installation, and Service Pack update

Tekla Structures administrators can distribute the software using a customized installation that contains your company settings. If available, use your company installation package instead of the general installation package. For more information on creating customized installation packages, see the linked article Centralized distribution of Tekla Structures. Also, to ensure a good experience using our software, make sure your computer meets the Tekla Structures Hardware Recommendations for the version that you are using.

For subscription customers, planning to use versions 2019 and forward (Online License)

A release candidate (RC) is a beta version, which is ready to release unless significant bugs emerge. However, it is not the final product.

  • Download the installation package for Tekla Structures and at least one of the Tekla Structures environments. At the site, click Download for a guided experience that ensures you have all necessary files. See the steps below before downloading and installing

Version 2021 and Forward

  • In Step 1, choose Tekla Online license as your Licensing method and hit Next
  • Skip Step 2 by pressing the Next button at the bottom right.

  • Download the software executable from Step 3 of the Tekla Structures Installation Guide. If there is a Service Pack for the version that you are downloading, the latest pack will be chosen from the drop-down menu by default
  • On Step 4, scroll down to the environment designated to your country (or countries that you work with) and download. You can download and install several environments if needed

Scroll down to Running the installations before installing your downloads.

Versions 2019 through 2020

  • Skip Step 1 by pressing the Next button at the bottom right.

  • Download the software executable from Step 2 of the Tekla Structures Installation Guide
  • On Step 3, scroll down to the environment designated to your country (or countries that you work with) and download. You can download and install several environments if needed

As new updates or Service Packs are released for your chosen version of Tekla Structures, Steps 2 and 3 will have those latest updates available to download. Keep in mind that a download of the version with the service pack in it contains the entire software + updates. We always recommend that you download and install the latest service pack available

Running the installations

You will now run the installers in the same order that they were downloaded. Carefully review all steps below before installing:

  • First, for the Tekla Structures software installation, the only choices you need to make are the language that you want to use, and the installation folder:

  1. The default location is the Program Files folder. If you choose this option, additional files including environments are installed in the hidden Program Data folder. If your company does not want other users to change the program's configurations themselves because there is a designated person is in charge of configuring the software, use this option. Note that the option requires Administrator rights to access ProgramData files and this will limit users' access to options contained within files inside the Program Data folder.
  2. By choosing a different installation location, all files will be installed in the chosen folder. We recommend using the C:|TeklaStructures (or Other) option, which will allow you to manage your own installation of the software as accessing and changing the configurations is simpler.

  • Lastly, for the Environment installation, you will only need to choose the language, and click Next until finished. See below before installing.
  1. This installation will take a few minutes longer than the previous one, due to built-in extensions and localization options. We recommend that you leave the Install environment content now box checked, and let the entire installation run. If you don't, as stated in the InstallShield window, the content will still try to run each time you open the software, and this can be bothersome.

If you do not install an environment, only a Blank environment will be available. This environment is only to be used as a basis for building your own, fully customized environment. It is in a metric system and does not contain the built-in tools and configurations needed to use Tekla Structures efficiently. For issues that may occur if using a blank environment see the linked articles Opened Tekla for the first time and profiles are not showing, and Missing Components. If you attempt to start the program without an environment, you may receive the following warning:

Start using Tekla Structures

Before being able to use your license, you must become part of your organization under the Trimble Identity email that you created. If you are responsible for managing Tekla Structures users and online licenses, add users to your organization group in the Tekla Online Admin tool to give them full access to Tekla online services and the necessary online licenses, see Manage Trimble Identities and Tekla Online licenses.

  • Tekla Structures will ask you to choose the type of license to use. Proceed with the default, Use your Tekla online license option.

Online licenses are stored in Trimble's cloud service. Licenses can be from your online organization or assigned to you as an external license user in some other organization from inside the Tekla Online Admin Tool. After license selection, a dialog box where you choose your Tekla Structures setup appears.

  • Carefully choose your Environment and Role. The Configuration represents the type of license that you have subscribed to. Click OK to start using Tekla Structures.

The computer where you will use Tekla Structures can also act as a server. • Start Tekla Structures and carefully select your language.
  • Optional: When prompted, log in using your Trimble Identity. If you have not already done so, you can click here to create a new Trimble Identity. If you do not know your login information at the moment or prefer not to sign in, simply close the Tekla Structures Sign-in window

To use online services such as Model sharing or to access the Tekla Warehouse, you must become part of your organization under the Trimble Identity email that you created. If you are responsible for managing Tekla Structures users and online accounts, add users to your organization group in the Tekla Online Admin tool to give them full access to Tekla online services and the necessary online licenses, see Manage Trimble Identities and Tekla Online licenses.

  • Tekla Structures will ask you to choose the type of license to use. Proceed to change from the default to the Use your on-premises license server option. See Step 7 in this FLEXnet licensing help article under section I am a new customer ready to activate my new license for detailed instructions on how to define your license server (define server address):

If your license is activated on the same machine where Tekla is going to be used, check the Use your on-premises license server option, leave the server address box empty, and click OK

  • Carefully choose your Environment and Role. The Configuration represents the type of license that you have purchased. Click OK to start using Tekla Structures.

For customers planning to use legacy versions 2018i and older (On-Premise License)

Service Pack update

Keep in mind that updating your Service pack will not interfere with existing models or Firm folder/ user.ini setups. However, if you made changes to any of our system files (i.e. edited files that came with the installation such as out-of-house templates) those will become re-set.

  • Using the drop-down menus pick: Your version of choice, the latest service pack (highest number on the list), and, under File type choose All. Hit Apply filter
  • Download the executable that is listed under the Service Pack section. On the Environment section, scroll down to the environment designated to your country (or countries that you work with) and download. You can download and install several environments if needed. Be sure to download both, the service pack and the service pack's environment.

A download of the version with the service pack in it contains the entire software + updates. We always recommend that you download and install the latest service pack available

  • Run your downloads' installations in any order (Service Pack first and Service Pack Environment second or vice-versa) and Tekla Structures should now be ready to use.
