Closing down the Model Sharing Change Manager takes a long time

Problem: After read in, I want to close the list of model changes (Change Manager) at the bottom pane. However, this time closing the manager took much longer than usually. What could be the reason? Answer: If more than 3 model views are open at the same time, it can cause noticeable slowness to the closing of Model Sharing Change Manager. This is because each view needs to be re-drawn separately, and depending on the model, this can take some time. Solution: To workaround the issue, please close all the unnecessary views. You might also want to consider disabling the change manager

Using Trimble Connect files in Tekla Structures

You have the option in Tekla Structures to store custom settings in a specific folder so that they are available in Tekla Structures. You can use the following two advanced options: XS_PROJECT: You can set this advanced option to use custom settings in one Tekla Structures model. XS_FIRM: You can set this advanced option to use custom settings for all Tekla Structures models. For both counts that this can be a local folder or a folder on a server. A folder on a server is often used when multiple licenses are in use in one company and it is desirable that everyone uses the same settings (

This is something you would do to correct an issue with Tekla running on your compnuter.  Pre-Requisites before Starting 1. Save any customizations or add-on files you might have made to local installations. 2. Back up models to secure location before modifying system files. Removing the old installation On your computer go to the "Windows Button" and click on the "gear" then inside the Settings dialog click "Apps". In Apps dialog search for "Tekla". In the

US Rebar Tutorials

In this training you will learn how to use many of the reinforcement techniques available in Tekla Structures. The model you will need for this training can be downloaded below. This is a completed concrete model and you will be adding reinforcement throughout these tutorials. This training is to be considered an intermediate level training. If you are not familiar with the basic concrete modeling processes and tools, you will need to get up to speed on these. You can accomplish this by going through our Concrete Fundamentals course, Tekla User Assistance tutorials, or through your company's

License Borrow Tool Configuration

The License Borrow Tool will allow you to use Tekla Structures offline by borrowing licenses that are activated on a computer server. The tool is beneficial to users who want to work in a location that does not have a reliable connection to the license server. See the linked article for detailed descriptions of the Borrow Tool's options and settings. A Tekla Structures user can borrow licenses that are activated on the server for a defined number of days while connected to the office network, or by temporarily connecting to the server via VPN. In short, while performing the process of

Creating rails to use with Bending machines

If you are starting to use bending equipment for your rails you will need to be aware of a few nuances that are required so the bending software can read the data.  The main thing to remember when modeling rails to be bent in a bending machine is to NOT use polybeams. Polybeams, when exported, are shown faceted which means each segment of the shape is now a face instead of having a smooth surface. See below.  The rail to the left is just a straight piece of rail, you can see the shape is smooth and there are no lines between each segment. The rail to the right is a polybeam, you can see there

Working from home and slow internet speeds with Tekla Model Sharing

Question: What are requirements for internet connection speed while working with Tekla Model Sharing? We have many employees now working from home and they are experiencing long read-in  and write-out times and for some of them it can fail from time to time. Answer: Tekla Model sharing does not have any minimal requirements for internet speed. The only limit is the maximum time for upload/download token. For security reasons the upload/download token validity time is limited to max 6 hours. In practice this means that if a single packet upload/download takes more than 6 hours the

Plate perimeter value in report

Question : Can we have a value of plate perimeter in a report ? For this case = a+b+c+d+e Answer : Yes, we can get the value for perimeter,by subtracted  Total Plate Area with top and bottom areas, then devided with the width value. (GetValue("AREA")-GetValue("AREA_PZ")-GetValue("AREA_NZ"))/GetValue("WIDTH") Limitation : The formula only works when the plate profile has constant thickness (width value), it will failed when the width value has modified with cutting or other methods.

Add multiple model/project code to Assembly and Part Marking without affecting numbering.

Question : If I have to model more than one indentical model/building in one project, and need to put the model code into the position marking, what should I set ? The members in same position should have the same position number. For example : 01PC001 = Column Position Marking from model 01 02PC001 = Column Position Marking from model 02 Answer : If the multiple models is really identical, just need to model it once 1. Set the code of model or Project Code in the UDA of Project Properties For example at the Project Comment field : 2. Open Advance Setting At the field of Numbering, set

Center Lines on Section Views and End Details

Question: I am trying to figure out how to turn on the centerline of an End view of a profile in drawings. Is there a setting or advanced option that is keeping this from appearing? Answer: When a part's centerline is perpendicular to a view, it is visualized as a cross. The size of that "cross" is defined by the Symbol offset property in the Content tab. In versions up to 2019, symbol offsets in drawings' Section views and End details have been consistently zero (0), and thus the size of the cross in those views is not visible. As demonstrated by the following image, the centerline cross

Can Tekla output bolts in 1/2 inch increments?

Question - Our bolt supplier only buys bolts in half inch increments, such as 1", 1 1/2", 2", 2 1/2", etc... Tekla outputs bolts in quarter inch increments, how can we only output bolts in lengths that our bolt supplier can buy? Answer - You can do this in Tekla but will require you to update your bolt catalog to only include the bolt sizes that your supplier can purchase. You can do this by going to File > Catalogs > Bolt Catalog and that will open the Bolt Catalog Dialog. Here you can filter by the bolts that you want to see to make it easier to delete bolts. See below, i am filtering

Surface Treatment adding weight to assemblies

Question - I have some assemblies in my model that have surface treatment for "no paint" applied. Depending on how i apply the surface treatment it might add to the weight or remove weight depending on the grade that is used. Why is this happening? Answer - This is correct, i will give a few examples below to explain what is going on.  First, Surface Treatment, in general, is "Zero_density", so that means any part of the object that the surface treatment exists on technically has that volume of the part removed, therefore, affects the weight. Let's look at the example below This piece is just

Length Issues when exporting to EPM

Question - I have exported my model using the Tekla EPM plugin to Tekla EPM but the length for certain members like columns and beams are showing as zero length. Why is this happening? Answer - This issue is due to the character length defined in the "450   TeklaEPM_Part_v2.rpt" report. We have since updated this report and you can download the report attached to this article and extract the zip file then place the report in your model folder or firm folder to use it and the length will then be fixed when you export using the Tekla EPM plugin again.

Drawing Layouts and Windows 7

Question - I just upgraded to Tekla 2020 and now my layouts are not visible in the dropdowns. I am using Windows 7, could that be related? Answer - Yes, we have seen this issue occurs only on Windows 7 machines at this point. Microsoft has stopped supporting Windows 7, therefore, we recommend you update to a new Operating System and this issue will go away. This problem also exists with 2019i and the latest service packs.

When using Direct Modification i cannot add a new handle

Question - At one point I could add points to a contour plate, slab, grid when using direct modification but now the button that would normally show up between two existing handles is gone?  Answer - This was likely turned off by accident but you can turn it back on using the contextual toolbar. First, you need to highlight a handle on the object you want to add a point to, see below Then click on the contextual toolbar and branch out the settings, there you will see a line with a point in the middle. Turn this on and it will add the point back, see below   Now you will have the option to do
