Tekla Model Sharing error: 'Failed to write out model changes. Reason: Operation failed.'

Question:
When I Write out my model changes and updates to a Tekla Model Sharing model, it takes a lot of time, and at the end I receive an error message "Failed to write out model changes. Reason: Operation failed". Why does it fail?

Answer:
Some possible reasons for this error is large packet size and/ or internet connection's upload bandwidth speed limit.

The upload/download token validity time is limited to max 6 hours for security reasons. If a single packet upload/download takes more than 6 hours the operation will fail and the above error message is shown. If you want to check that this is the cause for the error, go to the the modelsharing.log file. It should show the following error message:

[ERROR] TS Facade: UploadDataVersionWithChangePacket: UploadBlob failed on StorageException. This might be result of the missing connection to the BLOB storage. (ErrorCode: OperationFailed)

Possible reasons for slow upload/download time:
  1. There are some large files in the model folder which you are trying to upload to the shared model. E.g. huge reference files or other junk files stored in the model folder. There is no limit to upload package size, but you should consider what is uploaded and shared for the sake of upload/download time. For more information, please see this article on how to exclude files and folders from sharing.
  2. Your internet connection's download / upload speed may be insufficient. If you are not sure of what is your internet upload/download speed, you can check it using a variety of free tools available online.
See the table below for different upload / download speeds and theorethical approximate time (hh:mm:ss) it takes to upload/download a packet to/from Shared Model. The table below is only a guideline!
