Introduction to installing Tekla Structures

This document will give you step by step instructions on how to install Tekla Structures software and its environments.

Installation Requirements

The installation requirements and also hardware requirements can be found here

Preparations

        - Prior to installing Tekla Structures you need to remove any previous installations(i.e. if you are running Release Candidate or BETA you will need to remove those installations) of the version you are installing.
        - You must have Windows Administrator privileges to install Tekla Structures, as the installation updates some system files. Consult your system administrator or Microsoft Windows documentation for more information on Administrator privileges.
        - This installation guide assumes that Tekla Structures Licensing is installed and running before the installation. If you need to setup your Tekla Structures license please click here

Helpful Information

        - Do not delete your current installed versions of Tekla Structures unless you are not working in projects in those versions any longer.
        - If possible, do not open any current models in this new version.
        - All models are upward compatible; however, many connections have been enhanced, modified or moved. Thus, it will be safer to complete any current models on your previous Tekla Structures version.
        - Models are not backwards compatible and will not open in previous version if saved in a newer version.

To install Tekla Structures on your local machine please follow the below instructions

Download the Software and Environments from the Tekla Download Page
- Tekla Downloads

Once you have the files downloaded on to your machine find the install file ending with ”software.exe”.

If you are running Windows 7 or later you will need to right click on the installer and run as administrator. Also when you use the run as administrator feature your computer might ask you to allow the program to install. You will need to click yes in the User Account Control dialog if it appears.

The first step will be to choose a language for the installation.

Note this is the language for the installation NOT the language Tekla will use.

- After selecting the language click ”OK” to proceeed to the next dialog.

On the next dialog click ”Next” to proceed.

This dialog is the License Agreement and you must accept it in order to proceed with the installation.

The next dialog will ask for the location in which you want to install Tekla Structures.

If you have previously installed Tekla the default location of a new installation will follow the same location as your last installation

The default directory is set to Microsoft recommended Program Files which can cause problems with users who don't have full administrative rights. To avoid running into problems it is suggested to install Tekla with the first option (C:\TeklaStructures).

Once you have chosen your install location click ”Next”.

The next dialog is for the model folderfolder that is used for storing files associated with a model

Tekla Structures stores all files associated with a model in a folder it creates with the same name as the model database (.db1).

In multi-user mode all users access the same model folder.

locations. By default Tekla will install a model directory to C:\TeklaStructuresModels\.

If you would like to have your default model folder in a different location choose Change and you can browse to the folder you would like all models to be located. You can change the location Tekla looks at after you have installed but this will be the location of all new created model by default.

Once you have chosen your model folder location click "Next".

You are now ready to install Tekla. Click the ”Install” button to proceed with the final step of the installation.

Tekla will now copy the appropriate files to your machine...

Lastly you will need to click ”Finish” and then proceed to install your local enviroments.

After you install the main software you will need to install a local environmentTekla Structures environment that contains settings that are based on country- or region-specific standards and are different from the global settings

The local environment settings may override the global settings.

. See below instructions.

You will first need to find your local environment on the download page that you got the main software download from. download.tekla.com

Once you have the files downloaded on to your machine find the install file beginning with ”Env_”.

The first step will be to choose a language for the installation

Note this is the language for the installation NOT the language Tekla will use.

- After selecting the language click ”OK” to proceeed to the next dialog.

On the next dialog click ”Next” to proceed.

This next screen will show you where the environment is going to install to. The installer will reference the location of the system files when doing this so there is no need to change anything. Please click ”Next” to proceed with the installation.

You are now ready to install Tekla’s environment. Please note: The Tekla Structures Environments now install using the TSEP packages. The exe essentially places the TSEP packages in the "To be installed" folder in your Tekla system directory and then installs them either during the installation of the environment or when you first launch Tekla based on the selection you choose. The check box for "Install TSEP files now" will determine if the packages are installing during this installation or at startup if you uncheck the box. Click the ”Install” button to proceed with the final step of the installation.

Tekla will now copy the appropriate files to your machine.

If you chose to install the TSEP files during the installation then you will see another dialog appear where the TSEP packages are being installed.

When these are completed the installation of your environment is now finished and you can proceed to open Tekla.

After you have completed the installation you should be able to open Tekla and run the software. If you recieve a message like the one below please reference this site for assistance with getting your license active.

If you had a previous version of Tekla installed then you would want to bring over the saved files and settings. To do this you would use the Migration Wizard, for more information on the Migration Wizard visit https://teklastructures.support.tekla.com/2019/en/ins_copying_personal_s...
