Introduction to installing Tekla Structures
This article will give you step by step instructions on how to install Tekla Structures software and its environments.

Before you start
- Remove any previous versions of Tekla Structures you might have. Note that you will lose all Tekla Structures projects when you do this. If you have incomplete projects, you might want to finish them with the old Tekla Structures software because there might be compatibility issues.
- Make sure you have Windows Administrator privileges to install Tekla Structures to the device. Consult your system administrator or Microsoft Windows documentation for more information on Administrator privileges.
- Make sure you have Tekla Structures Licensing installed. If you need to setup your Tekla Structures license please click here .
Installing Tekla Structures
Download the Software and Environments from the Tekla Download Page: Tekla Downloads
Once you have the files downloaded on to your machine find the install file ending with ”software.exe”.
If you are running Windows 7 or later you will need to right click on the installer and run as administrator. Also when you use the run as administrator feature your computer might ask you to allow the program to install. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, you will need to click yes.
The first step will be to choose a language for the installation.
Note that the language for the installation is not the language used in Tekla Structures.
After selecting the language click OK to proceed.
On the next dialog box click Next to proceed.
This dialog is the License Agreement and you must click accept it in order to proceed with the installation.
The next dialog will ask for the location in which you want to install Tekla Structures.
If you have previously installed Tekla the default location of a new installation will be the same location as with your last installation.
|The default directory is set to Microsoft recommended Program Files which can cause problems with users who don't have full administrative rights. If you do not have full administrative rights, it is suggested to install Tekla with the first option in the image below (C:\TeklaStructures) to avoid problems.|
Once you have chosen your install location click Next.
Next, you choose the model folderfolder that is used for storing files associated with a model
Tekla Structures stores all files associated with a model in a folder it creates with the same name as the model database (.db1).
In multi-user mode all users access the same model folder.
locations. By default Tekla will install a model directory to C:\TeklaStructuresModels\.
If you would like to have your default model folder in a different location choose Change and browse to find the folder you would like all models to be located to. You can change the location afterwards.
Once you have chosen your model folder location click Next.
You are now ready to install Tekla. Click the Install button to proceed.
Tekla will then copy the necessary files to your device.
Finally, you will need to click Finish.
Note that if you had a previous version of Tekla installed and you want to import saved files and settings you can use the Migration Wizardtool that is used for copying settings defined by the user in the earlier version of Tekla Structures
Migration wizard is typically used when starting to use a new version of Tekla Structures. The migration wizard can be used to copy settings included in initialization files.

After you have installed the main software you will need to install a local environmentTekla Structures environment that contains settings that are based on country- or region-specific standards and are different from the global settings
The local environment settings may override the global settings.
First, find your local environment on the download.tekla.com . It is the same page where you downloaded the main software from.
Once you have the files downloaded on to your device find the install file beginning with ”Env_”.
Choose a language for the installation. It is not the same language that is used in Tekla Structures.
After selecting the language click OK to proceed.
On the next dialog box click ”Next” to proceed.
Next, you will choose where the environment is installed to. The installer will offer system files as the default option. Click Next to proceed with the installation.
You are now ready to install Tekla Structures Environmentregion- or company-specific settings and information that are predefined in Tekla Structures or that are defined by the user
To be able to use Tekla Structures, the user must install the software and for region-specific settings at least one Tekla Structures environment. The software installation includes the common and blank project environments and the global settings. The common environment and global settings form the basis for all other environments.
Property files form the largest part of a Tekla Structures environment. A Tekla Structures environment consists of, for example, profile catalogs, part property files, and drawing settings.
The check box for Install TSEP files now will determine if the packages are installed during this installation or at startup if you uncheck the box. Click the Install button to proceed. If you leave the box unchecked, Tekla Structures Environments will be installed when you launch Tekla Structures for the first time.
Necessary files will be installed to your device.
If you chose to install the TSEP files during the installation, you will see another dialog appear about the installation location of the TSEP packages.
By clicking Finish have completed the installation of your environment.
After you have completed the installation you should be able to open Tekla Structures.
