Question- Can I keep my existing part from numbering in my model?
Answer- You cannot keep existing part from numbering in your model, they act just like normal parts do so they number just like normal parts to. What i would suggest doing is changing the numbering Prefix for each existing member you have to DND (Do not detail). What this does is make it easy to identify the parts in your drawing list if you accidentally create one and also make them easy to filter out in the model since now you have a common parameter.
