In Tekla Structures, aside from using our drawing presets to determine view visibility you can set a direction in which a part's main view will always show in drawings by using one of its property’s UDAs in the model.

The Fixed drawing main view UDA controls the appearance of your drawings by allowing you to control and lock a defined orientation of part views from the model.

To know which orientation to choose from the drop down, you first need to look at the part and understand the direction of each of its faces.

  1. The location of a part’s start and end handles determine its orientation.

  1. A part’s Front view will always be on the right side when looking at it from start to end handle. The part's top also follows the location of the handles.

Once the fixed orientation is set for parts, the main view will always be what has been determined in the model regardless of the settings in a drawing's View properties. See this video for additional examples, as well as the following article for further details.
