Creating a Custom Step as an item and then wrap it up as a Custom Seam to use in Stair component (S71)
Question - If I create a custom tread or find a tread in the Sketchup warehouse, how do I add it to the Stair component?
Steps:
1. Inside the model, add two (2) channels parallel to each other to represent stair stringers.
- Make the length longer than the tread.
- Make the space between them the width of the stair.
2. Add your custom tread between the channels going from right to left. Here, I went out to Sketchup Warehouse and found a grating tread. If needed, here is a link to an Expanded Metal Mesh.
Note: When downloading parts from the Sketchup Warehouse, you need to check to make sure the solid has no voids and everything is closed off. Here is an explanation of how to view solid errors, and also a link that explains the process of closing up the solid if necessary. |
3. Next, create a Seam type custom component by going to the Application & component menu and clicking the button with three lines.
4. Click the Advanced Tab and put a check in the box to allow multiple instances of connection between the same parts.
5. Click Next and select the tread as the component object
6. Click Next and select the left stringer as the main part.
7. Click Next and select the Right stringer as the secondary part.
8. Click Next and select the left nosing corner of the tread as the first point.
9. Select the right nosing corner of the tread for the second point.
10. Click Finish.
11. Find the custom component in the Application and component menu and double click on it.
12. Type standard at the top and click SaveAs.
