Formwork condition for a column

Question: How do you set up a formwork condition for a column in Tekla Structures using the Formwork placing tools? Answer: We can configure conditions through the Formwork placing tools - Walls. Definition of a new condition happens in two phases. First you need create the needed sub-assemblies and once you have all needed sub-assemblies available you can define a new condition by giving it a name and specifying which sub-assemblies are used in the new condition. Let's keep things simple and break it down into two exercises. First we'll create a column and add panels, ties and braces.

Create item shapes and edit model geometry

Question: I've imported a Sketchup (.skp) file into my Tekla Structures model, I'm wanting to model a few other parts and then save these parts and the imported shape as one object. What is the best way to do this and can I then duplicate this object throughout my model? Answer: It's great to hear you're utilising the functionality to import a Sketchup file. Firstly let's attach the parts and your imported shape together to create one object. From the Edit menu, select Added material > Attach to part. Select the part/s to attach to and then select the part/s you want to attach. Confirm

Detect clashes between welds and other objects

Question: When running a clash check on my model how can I make it check for overlapping welds? Answer: When you run a clash check using Tekla Structures 2019i, you can check the model for duplicate and overlapping welds and for clashes that occur between welds and other objects such as parts and bolts.  From the File menu > Settings > Options > Clash check. Ensure Exact solid weld clash check is set to Yes. Run the clash check, Tekla Structures will now check the welds against other welds, against bolts, and against the real geometry of the part profiles including roundings.

Inquire Object: Part Position / Assembly Position

Question:  When inquiring on an object, my Part Position, and Assembly Position sections both show up as the main assembly's position number. How do I make the Inquire object dialog also display the part position? Answer: By default, Tekla only displays the Assembly position because the Advanced option XS_USE_ASSEMBLY_NUMBER_FOR is set to MAIN_PART, which means that it will always assign the assembly or cast unit number to the main part of an assembly or cast unit. To change that outcome, the value must be left blank. This will allow you to get a part number, regardless of whether the

How do I set the cover for rebar sets?

Q. How can I set the cover for rebar sets? A. This article explains how to set default covers and covers by part or surface   A default cover that applies to all concrete parts can be set through Options. Concrete part user-defined attributes can be used to set different default covers for different part types. You can also set different covers for selected parts by changing the user-defined attributes of the selected parts. Surfaces can be used to set covers for selected faces. This is explained in more detail below and in the following article:Define the reinforcement cover thickness 1.

Templates created in version 2017i or later are not working in earlier versions of Tekla Structures

Q. When I open drawings (in version 2017 or earlier) templates created with the 2017i version of the Template Editor are not displaying in the drawing. How can I fix this? A. From 2017i the template editor (v 3.50) adds attributes that did not exist in earlier versions. The template will not work in Tekla Strctures 2017 unless these attributes are removed from the template. If recently created templates are not appearing in drawings it may be because the template contains attributes that are not compatible with the version of Tekla Structures you are using. How to workaround the limitation: Prefix and Postfix cannot be a plain number

Question: I would like to replace the numeric value of the dimension with a numeric prefix or a numeric postfix. Why can't a prefix or a postfix be a plain number? Answer: This is to make sure you accidentally wouldn't confuse manually added values with the actual numeric dimension values. The prefix value cannot be plain numbers, and cannot end with a number when the numeric value of the dimension is visible. The postfix cannot be plain numbers, and the it cannot start with a number when the numeric value of the dimension is visible. Workaround: You can enter a non-breaking space character

Missing Drawings

Question: How can I verify that drawings for all parts are accounted for on the Document Manager?  Answer: Because there are different approaches to creating dawings in Tekla Structures, there are also several ways to ensure that all drawings are created. However, the best way to check after drawings have been created is by using the Document Manager to identify the objects in the model that have associated drawings as indicated in the linked article under section Find model objects that have associated drawings in Document manager. Modeling with colors from version 21.1 and older

Question: We are moving from an old version of Tekla, where the modeling colors are brighter. In the new version that we are working on,  the modeling colors are more opaque. Is there a setting we can change to view our 3D model with the old colors? Answer: The modeling colors in Tekla Structures have changed since version 2016, but you can still use the ones from older versions by switching to the Class colors from version 21.1 and older option in the Display settings of the View properties. Relation Update Needed

Question:  In the drawing list under the "changes" column, some of my GA drawings sporadically say, "Relation Update Needed."  It will occasionally go away, but then it will be back 15 minutes later when I didn't touch that specific drawing. What is this message referring to? Answer: This message occurs when, on a GA drawing, sections or details are created and then moved to another GA drawing. If, in a given GA drawing where views were moved from you go back and make any changes to the detail or section symbol properties (even just a change to the color of the text), a Relation update

Print everything in Black & White except the logo

Question: On our drawings, we would like to have our logo print in color but to have everything else in black. Is there a quick way to achieve this? Answer: A quick way to do this is possible by inserting an image directly into the drawing. In Tekla Structures, you can only either print everything from a template in color or B&W. Therefore, to achieve this using the template editor, you would need to make every line and text in templates black except, of course, the image/ logo. Doing so would be time-consuming because you would have to revisit all the templates that are being used in
