Can I weld a rebar to my steel part to show it in Assembly drawings?

Rebar created using the Rebar options in the Concrete tab cannot be welded.

They can, however, be added to a part by using the Attach to part option.

Whether you can see it in drawings depends on the license that is being used, and on which the model was initiated. Primarily only Cast unit drawings can show rebar, and these drawing types are not available under all configurations.

Rebar created using the Concrete tab options will not show up in Assembly drawings mainly because inside the drawing properties there is not a button or section that can manage reinforcement properties. General Arrangement drawings, on the other hand, have this option and therefore will show rebar.

Primary licenses allow you to create Cast Unit drawings (which show rebar) but you cannot create a cast unit drawing of a steel part (using steel material grades) unless it is a sub-assembly of a concrete material part. So if you are trying to create an Assembly drawing of a steel column with rebar attached to it, Tekla Structures will not show the rebar and it would not generate a cast unit drawing of the steel column assembly.

The above does not mean that you cannot model rebar in your model or show it on drawings. If you need it on assembly drawings in a Steel configuration, the best method is to create a new profile in the steel catalog for rebar and model the rebar using the beam tool.

These are instruction on how to create fixed profiles, and the steps to create parametric profiles can be found here. You can add material grades such as A706 by adding the material in the Steel section as shown in the linked article. The rebar can then be modeled using the beam tool (or poly beam for multiple-point rebar) and it can be welded to the steel part, or embed as needed. Reinforcement will now show up when you create drawings.
