Purpose and description

Use Weld path drawing component to indicate the path and type of welds in Tekla drawings using a symbolic line.

Installing Weld path drawing

To install the extension:

  1. Download the Weld path drawing installer package from Tekla Warehouse. For more information see Downloading an application from Tekla Warehouse.
  2. Install the file package.

Using Weld path drawing

To use the application:

  1. Open a Tekla model that has a assembly drawingdrawing that shows fabrication information for a basic or a nested assembly, including bolts and welds, and that is generally used at the workshop

    Assembly drawings show how parts are located in an assembly. They contain the parts of the assembly presented in one or more views.

  1. Click the Applications & components button  in the side pane to open the Applications & components cataloguser interface for displaying or modifying information in categorized lists

    For example, profile catalog and shape catalog are catalogs.

  2. Search for Weld path drawing and then double-click to open it.
  3. The Weld path drawing dialog window will open. Make desired modifications.

  1. Click the Create button. (The application window is set to wait, and the dialog shows a progress bar indicating the preview creation progress).


The Close button will switch to Cancel for canceling the creation of the weld path symbols.

  1. For Part option from Create weld path for list, you must follow these steps.
    1. Pick the first part.

  1. Pick the second part.

  1. Weld path is created between the selected parts.

  1. For View option from Create weld path for list, you must follow these steps.
    1. Pick the view.

  1. Welds path are created for the selected drawing viewview that includes selected model objects or an area in the model, that is represented in a drawing

    A drawing view is a container for model and drawing objects.

    A drawing can include several drawing views, which usually are two-dimensional views, plane views, to the model.

    Examples of drawing views in Tekla Structures include main views, section views, single-part views, and 3D views.

  1. For Drawing option Create weld path for list, the application will create weld paths for the entire drawing.

  1. For Drawing Listlist of drawings that provides information about the drawings in a particular model and that is used for searching, managing, and printing the drawings

    In the drawing list, the user can, for example, search, open, update, freeze, lock, and delete drawings. The drawing list can also be used to display the associations between the drawings and the parts in the model.

    option Create weld path for list, the application will create weld paths for the entire drawing.

  1. Click on the Delete button for deleting the weld path symbols. (The application window is set to wait, and the dialog shows a progress bar indicating the preview creation progress.) It can be used on open drawings or for those selected in the Drawing List.

Field Description Default
Spacing Options Define the spacing options (to visualize the changes made the first and second block element will change position).
The options are:
  • Default
  • Left - Elements will be aligned to the left;
  • Right - Elements will be aligned to the right;
  • Centered - Elements will be centered;
  • Equi space - Elements will have the same space between;
  • Best fit – Tries to introduce between the start and end elements a large number of blocks with minimal distortion.

Size Define the size of the element.
The options are:
  • Same as weld - uses the size of the weld
  • Custom... - can be defined by the user

Note: The size is calculated using the following formula: element size (defined in the Pattern Line Editor) * size option
Size option is the above line size in Save as weld option and the user defined value in Custom... option

    1. Weld path for

      Field Description
      Weld path for Define how to draw the weld path.
      The options are:
      • Seam;
      • Seam tee or in overlap.
    2. Weld path for

      Field Description
      Visible side Define how the weld symbols that are on the visible side will be represented.
      Invisible side Define how the weld symbols that are on the invisible side will be represented.

Application buttons

Property Description
Show/Hide Use to show/hide Weld symbol options.
Create Use to create the weld path symbols.
Delete Use to delete the created weld path symbols.
Close->Cancel Close - Use to close the application.
Cancel - Use to cancel the creation of the weld path symbols.

Additional information

  • If you try to create weld paths in the model using the Part, View or Drawing options in the Create weld path for filed the following message will appear: “Please open a Drawing.”
  • If you try to create weld paths in the model using the Drawing List option in the Create weld path for filed and the TS Drawing list is not opened, the following message will appear: “Drawing(‘s) not selected from drawing list.”
