Stepped Footing

Purpose and description

This tool builds on the existing Stepped Footing component and allows for more options. This tool is included in the Concrete Tools extension.

Installing Stepped Footing

To install the applicationpart of Tekla Structures functionality that is developed in order to extend the capability of Tekla Structures but that is not included in the Tekla Structures installation


  1. Close Tekla Structures (if running)
  2. Download MSI Installer from Tekla Warehouse
  3. Install and run MSI Installer
  4. Start Tekla Structures
  5. Open Model
  6. Before version 2016:  A new toolbar icon which will launch the tool should now be visible. For 2016 version and newer: a new thumbnail under Ungrouped items in the Applications and components side pane will appear.

Using Stepped Footing

To place this tool, there needs to existing strip footings that differ in elevation. Select the upper (higher elevation) strip footingfooting that supports several points of contact or a region of points of contact

Strip footing supports a length of wall or a line of closely spaced columns, for example.

In Tekla Structures, strip footing has a polygon shape that the user defines by picking points.

and then the lower strip footing. The tool adds the concrete needed and based on the settings you chose.

Picture Tab:

Different options to set how the step is create (see below). Options to add it to the cast unit, match the width of the primary (higher footing) or secondary (lower footing) and if you want to fit the ends of the step.

Define the distance of each leg

Define the slope with A and B and set the bottom width.

Part Tab:

This tab allows you to set if you want to match the properties of either the primary or secondary. The custom option allows you to manually set what the properties will be of the step footing.
