Select Similar allows you to select objects in the model which are similar to currently selected object.

This tool supports 7 object types Part , Rebar, Assembly / Cast Unit , Bolt group, Weld, Component and Reference objects.

How to Locate
Select similar is available on side pane when modeling mode is open.

Also you can load "SelectSimilar" profile in contextual toolbar to use it from contextual toolbar. (See further instructions to setup contextual toolbar)

Setup Contextual Toolbar
To use select similar from contextual toolbar, click on customize button on the contextual toolbar.

This will open contextual toolbars settings window as shown below. 
From set profiles dropdown select 'SelectSimilar' profile and click on Apply button.

Once above step is complete, you can verify this by selecting any part in the model and your contextual toolbar should show Select similar Icon as below.

Usage
Select the object in the model (Part / Assembly / component / Rebar / Bolt group / Weld / Reference object) then from the contextual toolbar click on select similar Icon and all similar objects will be selected from the model.

Or you can also click on Select button from Select similar side panel.

Similarity Settings

Similarity settings or which properties to compare can be defined in side pane as shown below.

You can add any report property for selected object type to compare using search box below to search property and click on Add button.

Custom report property that is not listed in search also can be added by typing exact name of it and clicking on Add button. This will open below dialog where you need to provide description, attribute type and unit type for that property.

After adding the Custom report attributes, we can also edit the custom attributes to change the Name, Description, Type and Unit type properties. Double click on the custom attribute, it opens the Custom attribute dialog and from there we can edit the properties.

If you do not want to compare particular property while selecting similar items you can uncheck check mark at first column. Only checked properties are considered for the comparison.

If you want to remove particular property from list you can use delete button in last column.

You can set different settings for each object types and save the settings for future use.
Separate attribute file is stored as per each object type selected.

Unit Precision used for comparison can be managed by clicking on Gear Icon

The above Value column Units and decimals are taken from File ► Menu ► Settings ► Options ► Units and decimals

Notes:

Only one object should be selected while using this command.

To select Assembly/Cast Unit, Select assembly mode should be active on selection toolbar .

To select Component, Select component mode should be active on selection toolbar

  or you need to click on component symbol in the model to select component. 

To select reference object (inside reference model), Select objects in component mode should be active on selection toolbar.

If you are not able to edit the Custom attributes by double clicking on them, then delete the attribute and add again.

 

Language translation issues are fixed in Version 2.3. If you still have language issues then delete “SelectSimilar.ReportAttributes.xxxx.xml” (xxxx is the environment) files from the following location “C:\TeklaStructures\xxxx\Environments\common\extensions\Features\SelectSimilar” and restart Tekla structures.
