Saw Joint

Purpose and description

Makes creating saw joints easier. This tool allows you to create saw joints in the model so you can run reports and get quantities. This tool is included in the Concrete Tools extension.

Installing Saw Joint

To install the applicationpart of Tekla Structures functionality that is developed in order to extend the capability of Tekla Structures but that is not included in the Tekla Structures installation


  1. Close Tekla Structures (if running)
  2. Download MSI Installer from Tekla Warehouse
  3. Install and run MSI Installer
  4. Start Tekla Structures
  5. Open Model
  6. Before version 2016:  A new toolbar icon which will launch the tool should now be visible. For 2016 version and newer: a new thumbnail under Ungrouped items in the Applications and components side pane will appear.

Using Saw Joint

To use this tool, the user needs to select an existing Tekla slabplate that represents a concrete structure

In Tekla Structures, a slab is created by picking three or more points.

Slab may be part of a floor, for example.

. The points that you pick will become the ends of the saw joint. The user can select two or more points to create the saw joint.

Picture Tab:

This tab allows the user to set the size of the joint that is cut out and the gapany space between two objects

The term gap is used in its general sense in Tekla Structures.

for any filler material that might be added. Also has an option to set if the filler material is added or just the cut is needed. Option to fit the ends and if you want the filler material added to the cast unit.

Parts Tab:

This tab allows the user to set the Name, Material, Classpart property that groups parts according to identifiers given by the user

The identifiers of classes are usually numbers. Classes can be used for defining the color of parts in the model, for example. Class does not influence the numbering of model objects.

and Design Name of the filler material if it is created.
