Installing Rebar Nesting

  1. Download the Rebar Nesting installer package from Tekla Warehouse. For more information see Downloading an application from Tekla Warehouse.
  2. Install the file package.

Opening Rebar Nesting Application

  • Open a Tekla model in which reinforcements/rebar are already modeled.
  • Click the Applications & components button  in the side pane to open the Applications & components catalog.
  • Search for Rebar Nesting  and click on it.

Creating Nesting Groups

Before starting Rebar nesting process, nesting groups need to be defined.
Nesting groups can be defined either by selection in the model or using selection filter or for All rebars.
Custom name can be defined for Nesting group in Selection Name textbox and Nesting group method can be selected from drop-down box next to it.
Click Add button to add Nesting group to the Nesting list.

Getting Rebars in the Nesting group

Select the Nesting group from top half of the Application window for which you want to generate cutting patterns and click on Get Rebars button.
This will display rebar information in the table below as per grade and diameter of the rebar.

Generating Cutting patterns

Before generating cutting patterns you can use switches at the top of the table.

1. Use offcuts - Tick this switch if you want to use off cut rebars for generating cutting pattern.

2. Off-cut first - Tick this switch if you want to use offcuts on priority before considering stock lengths for generating cutting patterns. (This switch is available only if Use offcuts switch is ticked.

cutting pattern info row

1 - In this area rebar information is available for that grade and size bars. e.g. how many cut lengths required in the pattern. How much is total length required for this bar and other relevant information

2 - By clicking this button you can check available stock lengths and offcuts for generating this cutting pattern.

3 - Clicking this button cutting pattern can be generated for this bar diameter. When cutting pattern is generated status symbol will turn to green tick.

4 - skipped bars can be checked using this button. This can be due to unavailability of stock to cut that length.

5 - Used bars can be checked by clicking this button.

6 - Generated offcuts after running this nesting operation can be checked using this button.

7 - Clicking this button cutting pattern generated can be checked.

8 - Rebar diameter cutting pattern also can be exported to csv format by clicking on 'CSV' button
CSV format of the cutting pattern will be as shown below.

9 - Clicking on Merge button will transfer generated offcut data to offcut database.

10 - This area shows nesting information of the rebar after generating optimized cutting pattern.

Instead of running nesting for individual rebar row it can be run for all the rows by clicking Run button at the bottom of the table. Also Export csv button at the bottom can be used to generate total cutting pattern for all rebar rows. Merge button at bottom of table can also be used to transfer all offcuts generated to offcuts database from all rows.

Settings

Rebar nesting settings tab

On settings tab there are 4 options available.

Stock length settings : - Here you can set stock length for rebars. Clicking Stock length settings button will open below dialog. In this dialog stock lengths can be customized. Multiple stock lengths can be added for single diameter and grade of bar. You can also enter quantity of stock bars available for particular stock. '-1' in the quantity denotes infinite stock available.

1 - Refresh the stock length and maximum scrap length data from the
        <model_folder>/Rebar Nesting/RebarStockLengthData.dat
Any changes to the  - customized data can be fetched to the dialog with this button.

2 - Click on + button add new stock row. Enter Grade, size, stock length and Quantity for that stock in below dialog and click on Add button.

3 - Click on Pencil Icon to edit selected stock from the list.

4 - Click on Delete Icon to delete selected stock from the list.

5 - Click on <- button to import stock data from .dat file.

6 - Click on -> button to export stock from this model to .dat file. This option will reduce quantity of stock from this model's database. This option works only on finite quantity stocks. Exported file can be imported to other model by clicking import button explained in point number above.

7 - Click on -> button to export stock data for reference. This export will not reduce stock quantity from current model. This option works on both finite and infinite quantity stocks.

8 - This box can be used to filter grades or diameters from the dialog. e.g. enter "Fe250 6" to filter 6 diameter bars of Fe250 grade.

9 - This drop down can be used to select which bars to be exported while doing reference export. Either Finite quantity bars or Infinite quantity bars or both.

Maximum scrap length : - Clicking on this button opens a dialog to define Maximum scrap length for different diameter and grades. This defines maximum bar length to be considered for scrap. rebar having length more than this will be used for cutting pattern generation.

Clicking on Refresh button will get data from <model_folder>/Rebar Nesting/MaximumScrapLengthData.dat file.

Save button will save edited values in dialog to above file.

Off-cut length settings : - This dialog displays off cut quantities generated after running nesting feature in the model. This offcut bars or remaining length bars can be seen in this dialog and can be used in same model or can be exported to other model for utilising.

2 - Click on Pencil Icon to edit selected offcut from the list.

3 - Click on Delete Icon to delete selected offcut from the list.

4 - Click on <- button to import offcut data from .dat file.

5 - Click on -> button to export offcut from this model to .dat file. This option will reduce quantity of offcut from this model's database. Exported file can be imported to other model by clicking import button explained in point number above.

6 - Click on -> button to export offcut data for reference. This export will not reduce offcut quantity from current model.

Rebar Length Attribute : - This defines which report attribute to be used for getting rebar length for cutting calculation. If you are using custom formula from rebar shape manager then corresponding attribute can be set here e.g. DIM_X

Default value is LENGTH for this setting.
