Platform Grating

The Platform grating applicationpart of Tekla Structures functionality that is developed in order to extend the capability of Tekla Structures but that is not included in the Tekla Structures installation

allows user to create the desired gratings as per the requirements stated in the dialog boxes

System requirements

Tekla Structures version:       Refer download page
.NET Framework version:      4.0
Environments:   Refer download page

How to Locate

‘Platform grating' application will be available under the Applications & components cataloguser interface for displaying or modifying information in categorized lists

For example, profile catalog and shape catalog are catalogs.

as shown below once the Platform grating tools installed.

Click the icon as shown in the above image. User has to pick outer boundary members, inner boundary members and the members around which the grating needs to be cut.

Plug-in Dialog box

This application dialog box contains following tabs.

  • Platform grating
  • Plate(1) part that represents a flat structure

    (1) In some contexts, for example in analysis, the term plate object may be used to refer to plates.

    (2) plate that represents a steel structure

    (2) Plate is mainly used as a connection piece or as a floor plate.

  • Outer boundary design
  • Inner boundary design
  • Inner boundary polygon design
  • Cut parts
  • Load bar Mark
  •  Load Bar properties

Platform Grating

The default properties like the length, width and other parameters are defined here which can be modified as per the available standards.

The gratings created use these values hence this needs to be reviewed as per the requirements before starting to apply the macrosaved series of actions that includes instructions for a program

Macros are located in the applications and components catalog. They are recorded or created manually and stored as .cs file in a folder defined with the advanced option XS_MACRO_DIRECTORY.

Macros can, for example, be used for creating drawings or reports.

Macros are sometimes used to run an application.

The member boundary position has three options as shown below.
The input parameters are available with an option to clear it such that the procedure can be repeated again if there is a mistake in selection.

Plate properties

These plate properties need to be set as per the requirements and standards for the desired output.

There are two options for grating type

Outer Boundary Design

When the members are picked as outer boundary members say beams these are displayed in the dialog box

These members position can be changed to inside, middle and outside along with the offset. This will be displayed after the selection of the outer boundary members are done when using the platform grating tool.

Inner Boundary Design

This option is useful when there are openings around which the grating needs to be cut.

Inner Boundary Polygon Design

Instead of the inner boundary members the polygon shapes can be done by picking points.

Cut parts

Load Bar Mark

The load bar mark can be created for the gratings as it is useful to identify the flipping issue in gratings.

Additional Information

Since this is an aplication, modification after applying the macro is not possible it has to be reapplied again.

The macro applied in a bay the gratings in red indicate non standard ones and the one which is standard is brown in colour.
