Purpose and description
Formwork placing tools - Slabs is a set of components to help detailed modeling of typical slab formwork. These components are placing tools and to use these tools you need to have all relevant formwork products such as panels, girders, shuttering props etc. loaded into your Applications & components catalog. You can get formwork components provided by formwork suppliers from Tekla Warehouse. In addition, these tools require additional configuration files containing necessary information about formwork product components. In an ideal case, these configuration files come along with the formwork product catalogs provided by formwork suppliers, but you can also create configurations yourself.Back to top

Formwork placing tools - Slabs contains tools to place and modify the following formwork elements:- Formwork panels typically appearing as two-dimensional arrays covering a certain area
- Cross and main girders supporting the panels
- Shuttering props supporting the girders or panels directly depending on the formwork system
- Stop ends on top of panels
- Safety railings in the outer edges of the panel area

Panels (Formwork slab panels)
Formwork slab panels is the main component used to create the formwork panels for the slabs. You can use this same dialog box to insert the other formwork placing slab components and to define their properties.
To create a new area of panels:
To create a new area of panels:
- Open the Formwork slab panels main dialog box by clicking the component in the Applications & components catalog.
- Select the Formwork supplier and Product family from the dropdown lists. Note that the options may vary depending on which catalogs and tool configurations you have downloaded.
- Select the panel from the Formwork panel list.
- Click the Insert new button.
- Move the mouse pointer on top of the slab to identify the bottom surface.
- Click the left mouse button and pick three or more points to identify the area on the surface. A preview of the panels is shown while you are picking. Finish the picking with the middle mouse button.
- As an alternative, hold down the Alt key when selecting the surface. In this case, the whole surface will be covered with panels.

Cross and main girders (Formwork girder line)
Depending on the formwork system there may be cross and main girders in two directions, or only main girders or no girders at all.
You can either create all girders by once by selecting the panel area and clicking the Add to selected button, or you can create a single line of girders by clicking Insert new.
To create all girders:

To create all girders:
- Select the girder from the list.
- Select the girder layout.
- Give girder Overlap value or leave it empty and let the tool to set it automatically
- If girder Lenght(s) are not fixed and row is not greyed out, they can be defined on the dialog. Use space as a separator if you need to have girders with different lenghts.
- Select the panels area in the model view with .
- Click the Add to selected button.
- Enter the start distance and spacing of the girder lines.
- You can also select the option to create girders at panel area edges or not and the girder layout at the panel seam.
- Click the Create button when the girders are created.

Shuttering (Formwork prop)
You can either create multiple shuttering props by selecting the panel area, or one or more girder lines, and clicking the Apply to selected button, or you can create a single props line of girders.

- Select the prop, prop head and prop base from the Prop name, Head name and Base name lists.
- Enter the total height for the prop.
- Select the panels area, or select one or more girder lines in the model view.
- Click the Add to selected button.
The shuttering props are created.

Stop ends (Formwork stop end)
You can insert the stop ends by clicking the Insert new button on the Stop ends tab.

- Select the stop end name from the Stop end name list.
- Click the Insert new button.
- If the panels were not selected, select first the slab panel. You do not need to select the panel if the slab panels were selected before.
- Pick two or more points on the panels. Stop the picking with middle mouse button.

Railings (Formwork railing)
You can insert the railings by clicking the Insert new button on the Railings tab.
To insert the railings:
To insert the railings:
- Select the railing type from the Railing name list.
- Click the Insert new button.
- Depending on the railing type you may need to select the top face of the slab, side face of the wall, or the slab formwork panels. If the railing type is assembled on the slab panels and you have the slab panels selected, this first selecting is not needed.
- Pick two or more points on the panels, slab top or wall face. Stop the picking with middle mouse button.

Modifying the placing components
All placing components have some direct modification tools that you can use to modify the component.Panels (Formwork slab panels)
When selecting the panel area, you have the following options to modify the components:

| When this option is selected, you can modify the boundary of the panel area by using the typical polygon modification features to move edges or points by dragging or to insert new points by dragging the insertion points at the middle of the edges. In addition, you can move the starting point (corner of the panel) and direction of the panel by dragging the special handles. Image

| Click this option to add new rectangular interior openings into the panel area. Note that after adding the rectangular opening, you can edit the opening to any shape. Typically, the interior openings are larger areas where the panels are not needed. To replace the regular panel with some special infill parts, use the single panel removal tool. Image

| Click this option to remove or restore single panels in the area. Select the panels to be removed and confirm by clicking the 'accept' button on the contextual toolbar. You can select multiple panels by holding down the Shift key when clicking the panels. Hold down the Ctrl key to unselect the panels. Image

| Click this option to activate the modification of cross girders (if any). You can also activate the modification of an individual girder line by selecting it. |

Customizing Formwork placing tools - Slabs
All formwork placing tool components are just inserting various formwork product custom parts in the model. These custom parts must exist in the Applications & components catalog when using the formwork tool components. In addition to the custom parts you need to have the formwork tools for slab configuration files available.
