Column Reinforcement

Column Reinforcement extension creates reinforcement for a rectangular concrete column. Side bar reinforcement is create as single bars. 

How to Locate

Column Reinforcement extension is available under the Applications & components cataloguser interface for displaying or modifying information in categorized lists

For example, profile catalog and shape catalog are catalogs.

as shown below once the Column Reinforcement is installed.

Usage

Click the icon as shown in the above image. User has to pick concrete rectangular column to place the reinforcement.

Dialog box

This extension dialog box contains following tabs.

Main bars, Side bars, Bar ends, Stirrups.

Main bars

Use the Main bars tab to control the corner bar properties, the symmetry options and concrete cover thickness.

 

Reinforcement option
 

Options Description
   Define the concrete cover thickness for each side different value or same for all sides.

Symmetrical condition

Using the 'Symmetrical condition' option user can define which of the corner bars have the same grade, size and bending radius properties. The corners bars that have same properties are symmetrical.

Option Description
Top left corner bar properties are enable to user entry, rest of the corner bar
properties is take from Top left corner bar.
Top left and Top right corner bar properties are enabled to user entry.
Bottom left corner bar properties are taken from Top left corner bar and
Bottom right corner bar properties are taken from Top right corner bar.
Top left and Bottom left corner bar properties are enabled to user entry.
Top right corner bar properties are taken from Top left corner bar and
Bottom right corner bar properties are taken from Bottom left corner bar.
Top left, Top right and bottom left corner bar properties are enabled to user entry.
Bottom right corer bar properties are taken from Top right corer bar properties. 
All corner bar properties are enabled to user entry.

Common corner bar properties

The following bar properties are defined for all corner bars

Option Description
Name Define a name for the main bars.
Tekla Structures uses the name in drawing and reports.
Prefix Define a prefix for the part position number.
Start number Define a start number for the part position number.
Class Define the class of corner bar. For example, you can display reinforcement of different classes in different colors.

 

Additional corner bar properties

The following bar properties are defined for each corner bar separately.

Option Description
Size Define the diameter of the corner bar.
Grade Define the strength of the steel used in the corner bar.
Bending radius Define the bending radius of the corner bar.

 

Side bars

Use the Side bars tab to control the number of side bars, their spacing and placing, symmetry options, and side bar properties.

 

Symmetrical condition

Using the symmetrical condition option user can define which side bars are symmetrical, and which side bars use the same properties.

Option Description
Top side bar properties are enable for user entry, rest of the side bar properties are defined from this top side bar properties.
Top and left side bar properties are enabled for user entry. Bottom side bar properties are defined from top side bars and right side bar properties are defined from left side bar properties.
Top, left and right side bar properties are enabled for user entry. Bottom side bar properties are defined from top side bar properties.
Top, left and bottom side bar properties are enabled for user entry. Right side bar properties are defined from left side bar properties.
All four side bar properties are enabled for user entry to define each side bar properties are defined individually.

Option Description
Name Define a name for the side bars.
Tekla Structures uses the name in drawing and reports.
Prefix Define a prefix for the part position number.
Start number Define a start number for the part position number.

 

Additional side bar properties & placement

The follwing bar properties are defined for each side bar group individually. There are two set of bars can defined for each side and can user contol using the followin properties and parameters.

Option Description
No of bars Define the total number of bars for specified set of set specified side.
Spacings This is distance list parameter. Define the bar edge spacing and spacing between the bars.
Bar spacings are alligned horizontally from middle of specified side to edge of the side. Spacing are calculated based on number of bars and applied equal spacings in this condition.
Bar spacings are allingned horizontally from left side to right side for the specific side and spacing are taken from the 'Spacings' distance list parameter.
Bar spacings are aligned vertically from middle of specified side to edge of the side. Spacing are calculated based on number of bars and applied equal spacings in this condition.
Bar spacings are allingned vertically from top side to bottom side for the specific side and spacing are taken from the 'Spacings' distance list parameter.
Size Define the diameter of the side bar of speicified set of specified side.
Grade Define the strength of the steel used in the side bar of specified set of specified side.
Bending radius Define the bending radius of the side bar of specified set of specified side.
Class Define the class of side bar of specified set of specified side.

Bar ends

Use the Bar ends tab to control the length of vertical and horizontal extensions for the corner and side bars at the top and bottom of the column with mitre bend.
 

Option Description
Top bar end creation Define the bars top extension and bending parameters are symmetrical for all sides or different on each side.
Bottom bar end creation Define the bars bottom extension and bending parameters are symmetrical for all sides or different on each side.
Define corner bar top and bottom bend direction.

 

Stirrups

Use the Stirrups tab to control the stirrup properties and stirups placing. User can define 3 zones  (groups) of stirrups.

 

Common stirrup bar properties

Option Description
Size Define the diameter of the stirrup bars.
Grade Define the strength of the steel used in the stirrup bars.
Bending radius Define the bending radius of the stirrup bars.
Name Define a name for the side bars.
Tekla Structures uses the name in drawing and reports.
Prefix Define a prefix for the part position number.
Start number Define a start number for the part position number.
Class Define the class of stirrup bars.

Top Zone

Option Description
Length/Factor Option to choose between user value or factor of column length
Length Define the absolute length of the top stirrups zone.
Factor Define the length of the top stirrups zone from factor of column length.
Spacing Define the spacing between top zone stirrup bars.

Middle Zone

Option Description
Spacing Define the middle zone stirrups spacing. Length of middle zone is calculated based on top and bottom zone lengths automatically.

Bottom Zone

Option Description
Length/Factor Option to choose between user value or factor of column length
Length Define the absolute length of the bottom stirrups zone.
Factor Define the length of the bottom stirrups zone from factor of column length.
Spacing Define the spacing between bottom zone stirrup bars.

Hooks

Option Description
Shape Defined start and end hook shape of the stirrup bars.
Angle Define start and end custom hook angle of the stirrup bars.
Radius Define custom hook bending radius of the stirrup bars.
Length Define custom hook start and end straight part of the stirrup bars.
