Bracing to Tower Leg Component


Purpose and description

The Bracing to tower leg component combines all previous bracing to leg custom components with new features into a single easy to use component. this makes it much easier for the user to add bracing connections to towers

System requirements

Installing Bracing to tower leg

To install the extension:

  1. Download the extension from the warehouse
  2. From the Applications & Components cataloguser interface for displaying or modifying information in categorized lists

    For example, profile catalog and shape catalog are catalogs.

    open the exension manager
  3. import the extension

Using the Bracing to tower leg component

To use the extension:

  1. Open the Applications & Components catalog and select the Bracing to tower leg component
  2. Select the tower leg
  3. Select the bracing (Maximum 3 bracings)

Bracing to tower leg settings

Parameters Tab:

Property Description
Option to use a Distance or Factor for the end distance fo the bracing
The distance for the end of the bracing to be used, if no value is given the value is read from the GaugeLines.dat file
The value to be used for the ed of the bracing if the Factor option is selected
The gauge line for the bracing, if no value is given the value is read from the GaugeLines.dat file
The 1st gauge line for the leg, if no value is given the value is read from the GaugeLines.dat file
The 2nd gauge line for the leg, if no value is given the value is read from the GaugeLines.dat file
The 3rd gauge line for the leg, if no value is given the value is read from the GaugeLines.dat file

Typical options to specify the bolt properties

Cuts Tab:

Property Description
Option to create or not create the cuts on the internal bracing
Option to specify the size of the along the length of the bracing (if no value is given the cut is 45 degrees)
Option to specify the size of the along the width of the bracing (if no value is given the cut is 45 degrees)
Option to specify a distance to cut the brace clear of the leg root radius

Gussetcomponent object that represents a plate that connects braces to a beam, column, or base plate

Property Description
Option to choose the type of Gusset Plate - None, Bolted or welded to Toe
Option to specify the distance the gusset extends beyond the bracing
Option to specify the distance to the 1st bolt (if no value is given then no bolt is created)
Option to specify the quantity and spacing of the next bolts (if no value is given then no bolt is created)
The 1st gauge line for the leg, if no value is given the value is read from the GaugeLines.dat file
Option to specify the distance from the back of the leg to the back of the gusset plate
Option to specify the width of the gusset plate (if no value is given the width is calclated based on the end distance of the bracing, bolt spacing and the "A" value)
Option to specify the gusset plate distance Above/Below (if no value is given the width is calclated based on the end distance of the bracing, bolt spacing and the "A" value)

Welds Tab:

Options to specify the weld to the leg toe, these options are only active if the gusset plate(1) part that represents a flat structure

(1) In some contexts, for example in analysis, the term plate object may be used to refer to plates.

(2) plate that represents a steel structure

(2) Plate is mainly used as a connection piece or as a floor plate.

Washer Tab:

Property Description
Option to create washers or not
Option to specify a washer thickness, if the option to create is "Yes" and there is a gap between the bracing and Leg then a washer will be created automatically unless the gap is less than the thickness specfied, if the gap is greater then the component will automatically calculate the number of washer required i.e 10mm gap, 3mm thickness = 3 washers
