Duggans cold rolled - Important information

When utilising the Duggan Steel cold rolled system it is important to take the following information into account.


Orders can be made by submitting drawings or an electronic CAM file. It is vitally important that you use the Drawing Wizard in conjunction with the pre-defined drawing settingssettings that control what the drawing looks like and what it includes

Drawing settings can be defined in the modeling mode when creating a drawing, and they can be modified in the drawing mode.

The range of the objects and elements that drawing settings affect may vary.

so that the correct orientations and order data is shown. Duggan Steel may refuse to accept other styles of drawings.


  • Navigate to Drawings & reports --> Create drawings --> Master drawing catalogcatalog that is used for creating drawings by using master drawings

    Master drawing catalog can be used for searching for master drawings usually in the current model and saving the search results.

  • Select COLD ROLLED DRAWINGS folder
  • Right click on the drawing wizard in the box below the folder
  • To create drawing for the selected objects select the Create drawings option (ensure that Select object in components is selected)
  • To create drawings for all Duggan objects within the model select the Create drawings for all parts

In order to obtain the best results with the macros, please use the following profile types as indicated. Although not strictly necessary, the best results for ordering will be obtained by using the names "PURLIN" and "RAIL" in the Beam Properties dialogue in Tekla Structures, (otherwise drawings may be produced with the wrong orientations). Always consult the catalogue or the Tekla Structures profile database if you are unsure of the actual dimensions.

  • Sigma Section rails, floors etc., e.g. DP-SP175/65/180 is 175mm deep with 65 mm flange and 1.8mm thickness.
  • Pre painted Sigma Section rails, floors etc., e.g. DP-PSP175/65/180 is 175mm deep with 65 mm flange and 1.8mm thickness.
  • Eaves Beams, e.g. DP-EBG210/200/07 is 210mm deep with 2.0mm thickness and 7 degree flange slope. (Note last three figures indicate flange slope “0” to “30”)
  • Pre painted Eaves Beams, e.g. DP-PEB210/200/07 is 210mm deep with 2.0mm thickness and 7 degree flange slope. (Note last three figures indicate flange slope “0” to “30”)


Any joints which are specific to Duggan Steel should always be used in preference to the equivalent general cold rolled joint or the joint for any other manufacturer. For additional help on the following, see the individual help files:

macros are "modifiable". For these macros, a macrosaved series of actions that includes instructions for a program

Macros are located in the applications and components catalog. They are recorded or created manually and stored as .cs file in a folder defined with the advanced option XS_MACRO_DIRECTORY.

Macros can, for example, be used for creating drawings or reports.

Macros are sometimes used to run an application.

symbol, ("M" in a circle), will appear at the start of the first part selected for the macro, i.e. column or rafter. This works in the same way as a joint symbol, i.e.

  • Double clicking on the symbol allows the parameters to be changed to modify the created parts
  • Changes in the parts selected for the macro, e.g. changing the sheeting line, causes the macro to automatically modify the created parts
  • Selecting the macro symbol and deleting it, causes all the created parts to be deleted

However, you also need to take care when using these macros. In particular:
  • It is important to realise that in some cases (see the individual help files for details of each macro) any modification of the parts to which the macro applies is likely to cause incorrect results in the model, and also affect parts ordered. This is because the items created by a macro are not redefined when changes are made to the previously selected members. If it is necessary to change any of the members upon which the macro is dependent, then first delete all the parts created by the macro, make the required changes and finally re-apply the macro. Do not edit parts after they are created. 
  • You cannot select any parts created by the macro unless you have the Select objects in components option selected.
  • DO NOT simply delete the created parts and re-apply a macro if you make a mistake. You may end up with several macro symbols on top of each other, and several copies of each required support. If you select the wrong options, then find the macro symbol and modify the parameters, or if you have selected the wrong parts then you will need to delete it.
  • Sometimes when you apply a macro, no supports will be defined, e.g. default number in bay is zero, or validation error, but the macro symbol will still be defined. Again, DO NOT simply re-apply the same macro, or the non-standard one. In the first case, find the macro symbol and modify the relevant parameter. For the second case, either delete the symbol if you have selected the wrong parts, or correct the validation error, and the macro will automatically run again.
