PEB Beam To Beam Shear

1. Purpose and description

This is a prototype extension that creates a shear plate connection for 3-plate tapered beam to beam scenarios -- perpendicular, sloped and skewed. Assuming that the plates are beam type plates and the web plate is designated as the main part of the assembly

2. System requirements

Environments: Default, US Imperial, US Metric
Languages: English

3. Installing PEB Beam To Beam Shear

To install the application:

  1. Close Tekla Structures (if running)
  2. Download the installer (MSI or TSEP) from Tekla Warehouse ( also potentially the TSEP File Dispatcher Launcher )
  3. Run installer or import TSEP. (see how to Import a .tsep extension )
  4. Start Tekla Structures
  5. Create a new model or open an existing model
  6. Open the Applications and components side pane and a new icon with the extension's name should be found within Ungrouped items or US Extensions

4. Using PEB Beam To Beam Shear

To use the extension:

  1. Select icon in Applications and components side pane
  2. Right-click to open the properties settings;
  3. Set the properties as desired
  4. With the Select components or the Select objects in components selection switch active
  5. Select primary (supporting) 3-plate assembly 
  6. Select secondary (framing) 3-plate assembly 

5. Interface

This tool adheres to Tekla Structures general user interface options where possible where it differs is highlighted and explained below.

5.1 Picture

  1. Secondary pull-back framing distance
  2. Shear tab depth options - Full or Partial
  3. Sloped framing end cut options - Square or Aligned
  4. Skewed framing end cut options - Square or Aligned
  5. Shear tab position option - Nearside or Farside
  6. Shear tab alignment option - To Secondary, To Primary, To Both
 

5.2 Profile

  1. Shear tab sizing value (dh) provides override value for plate height
  2. Stiffener sizing value (dh) provides override value for plate height
  3. Shear tab corner chamfer options (top and bottom are the same)
  4. Stiffener creation options - No or Yes
  5. Stiffener corner chamfer options (top and bottom are the same)
 

5.3 Bolts

  1. Bolt group alignment options - To Primary or To Secondary
  2. Bolt group positioning options - Aligned To Secondary or Aligned to Primary

6. Additional information

  • This is a prototype extension
  • 3-plate beam assembly must comprise of beam plates with the main part being the web plate
  • Plugin may fail to insert with extreme slope or skew conditions.
