Sort Numbering

This article will explain the process required to sort your assembly marks in groups so that beams are numbered together, then columns, then braces, etc... You can also use this same reference to sort your numbers based on floors or other attributes. This same method also has the ability to sort by predefined attributes and if you download the Copy UDA extension here you can copy a property like PROFILE to USER FIELD 1 and sort your numbers based on Profile Size.

First I would edit the Numbering settings found under Drawings and Reports > Numbering > Numbering Settings. You will need to edit the sort order for assembly positions to use a special user defined attribute, this user defined attribute will tell the parts when to number themselves. See below, in this example I am using User Field 1.

Next I am going to add a integer (number) to the user field 1 on each column, each beam, and each brace in my model. For columns I will use 1 because I want columns to go first, then I will use 2 on beams and 3 on braces because I want them last. See below.

Now when I number the model with these settings this is the end result. See below

Please remember that you will need to manually add these numbers to the UDAs so that you can get the numbering you want, you then can save the setups accordingly to the standard files you use so they will automatically insert with the proper UDAs already set.
