The STAAD.Pro A&D application is owned by Bentley Systems Incorporated. Full product details can be found on their STAAD.Pro website.

Basic interoperability
If Tekla Structures and STAAD.Pro are loaded onto the same machine then a direct link can be used. Full information and link downloads can be found on the article Linking Tekla Structures with STAAD.Pro.
See A&D direct links for an overview of direct link functionality.

STAAD.Pro can export and import cis/2 files, together with their std format which has become a semi-industrial standard especially in the plant and heavy engineering segments. See the steps for those exports below.

Note regarding the direct link. Profile mapping for different installation environments, is achieved by the mapping the profiles used by Tekla and Bentley in files called - ProfileExportMapping.cnv and ProfileImportMapping.cnv located in TeklaStructures\TS_STAAD folder. Currently these files are only used in the import

9. Click on to the required model to select it and then select the import button and accept the import options. The structure will then be visible within Tekla Structures.

Problem with returning the results or member changes in STAAD.Pro

If you are having issues then the following procedure should be used and this needs to be done after installing TS_STAAD link:

  • go to C:\Spro2007\OpenSTAAD, run "regsvr32.exe OpenSTAAD.dll" (in admin mode in Windows Vista and 7 etc)
  • take a backup copy of C:\Spro2007\OpenSTAAD\staadRead.dll and staadread.tbl
  • copy staadRead.dll and staadread.tbl from C:\TeklaStructures\TS_STAAD\OpenSTAAD --> C:\Spro2007\OpenSTAAD, so we are replacing these 2007 files with the files from TS_STAAD link

IMPORTANT

  • STAAD model has to have valid calculated results, also for the section fetching to work.
  • STAAD.Pro2007 must not be open when get results is performed. as no results are received in this case. Even after closing STAAD.Pro2007 get results will not work, until the model has been recalculated.
