CATALOG NAME: Knee Brace
TYPE: SEAM

This custom component allows you to quickly add a knee brace between a beam and a column as well as the connections for the braces and the beam to column. The picking order defines the direction of the brace, which can consist of single or double angle braces. You can apply this component to both the top and bottom of the same beam.

Picking order:

1.  Select column
2.  Select beam
3.  Select the start or end handle of the beam reference line
4.  Pick a point along the column reference line to define the brace direction

Component Options:

1.  You can define whether the brace angle is required on the near side (NS), far side (FS), or both sides (BS) of the beam centreline.
2.  You will need to specify the gusset plate thickness to offset the bracing angles. This cannot be read from the nested angle brace connections.

Connections:

1.  You cannot apply this component to a beam that already has a connection component to the column. There is an option inside this component to define the beam to column connection component and attribute file.
2.  You can define whether or not to create the brace connections, and if required, specify which component and attribute to use.
3.  When you pick braces to be on both sides, you need to define which component and attribute file to use to create the double angle braces (uses the Double Angle (Equal) custom component, standard attribute by default)
4.  When you pick braces to be on both sides, you will need to create the connections in the model after the knee brace component has been created.

Brace Geometry:

1.  You can define the brace geometry by either defining the X and Y dimensions, or by defining one of these dimensions along with the desired angle of the brace, and the component will automatically calculate the other dimension.
2.   You can check the actual angle of the brace by double clicking on an existing component in the model.
