Tekla Structures 21.1 US environments Release Notes

1   Common to all US Roles

1.1   Environment ini files

The following variables were added to, modified, or deleted from the US environment ini files:

Added 
  • XS_REBAR_USE_ALWAYS_METHOD_A_FOR_90_DEGREE_HOOK_DIMENSIONS – this variable was added and set to TRUE.
  • XS_USE_ONLY_NOMINAL_REBAR_DIAMETER – this variable was added and set to FALSE.
Modified
  • XS_POUR_OBJECT_COLOR – changed this value from 1 (gray) to 12 (violet) so it wasn’t so close to the default concrete color which is dark gray.
  • XS_REBAR_POSITION_NUMBER_FORMAT_STRING - corrected this string to use the correct field. Output remains the same as previous versions.
Obsolete
  • XS_COMPONENT_CATALOGuser interface for displaying or modifying information in categorized lists

    For example, profile catalog and shape catalog are catalogs.

1.2   Catalogs

Reinforcing Bar Shape Catalog

The following Rebar database files were modified/added in the US environments:

  • Rebar_database_nominal (added)

Based on customer requests we have changed our rebar database and advanced optionssettings used to customize Tekla Structures for specific companies, standards, users, or user groups

In Tekla Structures, advanced options are settings that are used, for example, in a specific project or geographical area, or by a specific company.

In Tekla Structures, advanced options usually begin with the initials XS and are followed by the name of the function, for example XS_BACKGROUND_COLOR.

to reflect the actual size of rebar instead of nominal sizes.  The weight and area are unchanged, the diameter and hook dimensions have been updated to reflect the outer diameter.

Rebar Shape Manager

The following files was modified in the US environments:

  • RebarShapesRules.xml - This file has been edited to match CRSI standards for rebar shape dimension output.

Applications and Components Catalog (Sidebar)

With the introduction of the new Applications and Components sidebar, several additions/changes were made to help with the adoption of this new way of accessing applications and components.

  • Discipline groups for each role were created (i.e. Cast In Place, Engineering, Precast Detailing and Steel Detailing).

  • The default visiblity for a discipline group is associated to the role you use.
  • You can access other discipline groups from inside any project (model) by setting the Show hidden items checkbox located at the bottom of the Applications and Components sidebar.

  • Inside these discipline groups you will find sub-groups that have been created based on the collections (search groups) from the old component catalogcatalog that contains all system components and custom components, and the macros and applications

    The term component catalog is used in Tekla Structures until version 21.1.

Other components were organized into logical groups.

The Custom Componentcomponent that the user creates and uses for creating model objects whose composition the user can modify as a group

group will only be available if you create your model using a US model templatemodel which is used as a basis for creating new models

The user can save a model including all its elements, such as object properties, certain settings, parts, and components, in a model template.

. All model templates now contain all US custom components but the model template will control which custom components are visible by default. Notice in this image that several sub-groups are grayed out. This is because by default the Steel Detailing model template has these sub-groups hidden by default. This doesn't mean that the hidden components cannot be used. Just toggle the Show hidden items check box and click on the component that you want to insert into your model.

  • Any macrosaved series of actions that includes instructions for a program

    Macros are located in the applications and components catalog. They are recorded or created manually and stored as .cs file in a folder defined with the advanced option XS_MACRO_DIRECTORY.

    Macros can, for example, be used for creating drawings or reports.

    Macros are sometimes used to run an application.

    or component can be used in any role regardless if default visibility is shown or hidden.
  • Some new sub-groups have been created for better organization.
  • Some groups/sub-groups may only be found in models created with model templates. For example, if you create a model without a model template then that model doesn't contain any US custom components. Therefore the Custom Component group will not be available and any sub-groups that exist just for certain types of custom components will also not be available.
  • All files used by the old component catalog have been removed from the US environments.

1.3   User-Defined Attributes

The following change was made to the objects.inp file used by all roles.

The Reference Modelmodel which the designer can use as an aid when building another model

A reference model is created in Tekla Structures or in other software and can be inserted to Tekla Structures. The reference model appears together with the model but it is not modified by Tekla Structures. The user can snap to reference model points.

For example, an architectural model, a plant design model, or a heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) model can be a reference model.

attributes have been added back and are now available in the Reference Models sidebar.

1.4   Macros

Accessing Macros now in Applications and Components sidebar!

The location of macros has moved to the Applications and Components sidedbar. Thus you will no longer access them through the Tool menu.

Inside the Applications and Components sidebar, you will find a Macros group which contains US environment macros.

In order to support the new location of the macros, the following changes were done;

  • Macros located in role directories (Local) where moved to the enviroment directories (Global).
  • The role directories were deleted since they were no longer needed.
  • Role ini files were updated to no longer look at the role directories.
  • Macros groups for each role were created (i.e. CIPcast unit type where the concrete is formed, poured, and cured in its final position

    , ENG, Precast and Steel).

From the macro groups, you can;

  • You can create/record new macros from the Access advanced features icon.
  • Run macros by double-clicking on its icon.
  • The default visiblity for a macro group is associated to the role you use.
  • You can access other macro groups from inside any project (model) by setting the Show hidden items checkbox located at the bottom of the Applications and Components sidebar.

Several new macros have been added to the US environments.

This macro has been updated to work correctly in the US environments.


 

1.5   Templates

Settings

The following contentattributes files have been updated.

  • Contentattributes_global.lst – updated to several new attributes, such as Pour Breaks, Perimeter, etc.

1.6   Custom Components

All US custom component help files are now located in the Tekla User Assistanceonline help and self-support service for Tekla Structures

Tekla User Assistance includes instructions, support articles, and instructional videos, and it offers a possibility for feedback.

Tekla User Assistance is one of the Tekla online services.

site and their help buttons will now open in the new location.

2   Steel Detailing     

2.1   Steel Detailing Role

The Steel Detailing Role was created to include only the items needed to use Tekla
Structures for Steel Detailing and Steel Fabrication. This Role combines the contents of
the environment folders with the contents of the us_roles\steel folders. The
Role_Steel_Detailing.ini file located in the usimp (usmet) folder runs after the
env_US_imperial.ini (env_US_metric.ini) file is run. 

The following variables were modified in this role’s ini file:

  • XS_MACRO_DIRECTORY - this variable no longer points at a role specific macro folder since the role macro repository was removed.

2.2   Model Template

The Steel Detailing role’s model template has been updated to support the new Applications and Components catalog.

2.3   Reports

Updated
  • 350   Assembly List – updated report so that the area summary is correct.

2.4   Drawings

The Drawing Listlist of drawings that provides information about the drawings in a particular model and that is used for searching, managing, and printing the drawings

In the drawing list, the user can, for example, search, open, update, freeze, lock, and delete drawings. The drawing list can also be used to display the associations between the drawings and the parts in the model.

Drawing list is used in Tekla Structures until version 2018. See document manager.

searches related to the Drawing Status tab attributes were not working. These have been fixed.

The Weld attribute Site_Welds was missing which affected Plan and Elevation GA drawings. This file has been added.

3   Engineering     

3.1   Engineering Role

The Engineering Role was created to include items an engineer needs to use Tekla Structures. This Role combines the contents of the environment folders with the contents of the us_roles\engineering folders. The Role_Engineering.ini file, located in the usimp (usmet) folder, runs after the env_US_imperial.ini (env_US_metric.ini) file is run.

The following variables were modified in this role’s ini file:

  • XS_MACRO_DIRECTORY - this variable no longer points at a role specific macro folder since the role macro repository was removed.

3.2   Model Templates 

The Engineering role’s model template (ENG_BaseTemplate) has been updated to support the new Applications and Components catalog. Since it now contains all US custom components, th ENG_Platework model template is no longer needed and has been deleted.

4   Precast Detailing     

4.1   Precast Detailing Role

The Precast Detailing Role was created to include only the items needs to use Tekla Structures for Precast Detailing. This Role combines the contents of the environment folders with the contents of the us_roles\precast folders. The Role_Precast_Detailing.ini file located in the usimp (usmet) folder runs after the env_US_imperial.ini (env_US_metric.ini) file is run.

The following variables were modified in this role’s ini file:

4.2   Model Template

The Precast Detailing role’s model template has been updated to support the new Applications and Components catalog.

4.3   User-defined Attributes

A NEW tab for rebar couplers has been added to the objects.inp file used by the Precast Detailinge role. These attributes are populated by using the Rebar Split and Add Couplers tool which can be launched from the Applications and Components sidebar.

4.4   Reports

Two NEW reports have been added to the Precast Detailinge role. These reports can be used to list the rebar thread lengths added to bars in the model using the Rebar Split and Add Couplers tool.

4.5   Drawings

A few General Arrangement drawingdrawing that is created from one or more model views and that shows information needed to understand the general arrangement of structural elements on a project

General arrangement drawings show how parts, assemblies, cast units, or pour objects are located in a building.

Tekla Structures includes several predefined drawing layouts, which are drawing-type specific. The user can also create new drawing layouts.

. Meaning the drawing frame and templates were not setup correctly. This has been fixed and required updates to several files;

5   Cast In Place     

5.1   Cast In Place Role

The Cast In Place Role was created to include only the items needs to use Tekla Structures for Cast In Place projects. This Role combines the contents of the environment folders with the contents of the us_roles\castinplace folders. The Role_Cast_In_Place.ini file located in the usimp (usmet) folder runs after the env_US_imperial.ini (env_US_metric.ini) file is run.

The following variables were modified in this role’s ini file:

  • XS_MACRO_DIRECTORY - this variable no longer points at a role specific macro folder since the role macro repository was removed.
  • XS_REBAR_POSITION_NUMBER_STRING - was updated from %%REBAR_SIZE%%%%REBAR_PREFIX%%%%REBAR_POS.3%% to %%REBAR_SIZE%%%%REBAR_PREFIX%%%%REBAR_SERIAL_NUMBER.3%%. The resulting output did not change from previous versions.
  • XS_USE_ONLY_NOMINAL_REBAR_DIAMETER – this variable was moved to the environment ini file and turned off.

5.2   Model Template

The Cast In Place role’s model template has been updated to support the new Applications and Components catalogcatalog that contains all system components and custom components, and the macros and applications

The term component catalog is used in Tekla Structures until version 21.1.

5.3   User-defined Attributes

With the new button Pour Obect for controlling pour objects in GA drawings, the Object Level Settingsdrawing settings that affect the representation of selected drawing objects

Object level settings can be defined when creating a new drawing or when modifying an open drawing.

Object level settings can be use in a drawing or in a drawing view in order to change the representation of the chosen drawing objects.

 (for the Basic Pour Plan GA drawing attribute) have been updated accordingly.
