Tekla Structural Designer import and export

Renewed dialog boxes

  • The Export to Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Structural Designer Import dialog boxes have been renewed. Instead of tabs, the dialog boxes now have expandable sections for different settings, for example, Conversions, or Rebars in the import dialog box.

  • The rebar conversion file can be previewed in the import dialog box.

  • The Model Comparison Tool dialog box has been renewed.

Improvements in export

  • When exporting foundation objects to Tekla Structural Designer, rectangular pad footings are transferred as pad bases instead of columns, which were created in previous versions.

  • When exporting foundation objects to Tekla Structural Designer, rectangular strip footings are transferred as strip bases instead of beams, which were created in previous versions.

  • L-shaped, T-shaped, and C-shaped concrete columns are exported correctly to Tekla Structural Designer.

  • Concrete columns with other profiles are exported to Tekla Structural Designer as follows:

    • FLDPL profiles are exported as elbows

    • REC_A, REC_B, ... REC_H profiles are exported as trapeziums

    • REC_I profiles are exported as parallelograms

    • II profiles are exported as I-sections

    • TRI_B profiles are exported as 3-sided polygons

    • HXGON profiles with the same major axis length at both ends are exported as 6-sided polygons

    • OCT profiles are exported as 8-sided polygons if they are regular polygons

    • OCTGON profiles with the same major axis length at both ends are exported as 8-sided polygons

Improvements in import

  • When importing foundation objects (pad bases) from Tekla Structural Designer, pad footings are created instead of slabs, which were created in previous versions.

  • When importing foundation objects (strip bases) from Tekla Structural Designer, strip footings are created instead of slabs, which were created in previous versions.

  • Concrete columns created as L-sections, T-sections, or C-sections are imported correctly from Tekla Structural Designer.

    The following are not considered:

    • L-sections with unequal vertical and horizontal leg thicknesses

    • T-sections that are not symmetrical (where the stem distance is not half of the breadth)

    • C-sections with unequal web, top flange, and bottom flange thicknesses

  • Concrete columns created as elbows, trapeziums, I-sections, parallelograms, triangles, hexagons, or octagons are imported correctly from Tekla Structural Designer.

Improvements in rebar import

If you have compatible versions of Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Structures installed, if you use the Tekla Structures Diamond or Tekla Structures Graphite configuration, and if you import a .tsmd file, the following improvements are available for cast-in-place concrete structures:

  • Rebar sets can be created for pad footings, strip footings, beams, columns, and walls imported from Tekla Structural Designer. This applies to loose bars, not meshes.

In the Tekla Structural Designer Import dialog box, open the Rebars section, then the Import rebars for section, and select the relevant part type check boxes.

    • In footings, a single rebar set is created for each layer of bars (top outer and inner, and bottom outer and inner) in each footing. End detail modifiers are used for creating hooks.

    • In beams, columns, and walls, longitudinal rebar sets are created for main reinforcement and crossing rebar sets for stirrups. Separate rebar sets are created for stirrups or links in each beam span, column stack, or wall panel, or each region with a different bar diameter. Different regions, such as support and span, are modeled as spacing zones. Splitters and end detail modifiers are used for creating laps, cranks, staggers, and hooks. Property modifiers are used if there are longitudinal bars with different diameters within a rebar set.

    • In walls, rebar sets are cut at the openings, but not detailed.

  • Separately for each direction of a slab patch in Tekla Structural Designer, the rebar transfer will now create a single rebar set rather than one per strip where the rebar data is consistent. For example, there could be a single set for X and three sets for Y depending on the data in Tekla Structural Designer.
