Wooden Purlin (1) can be used to create a connection between a steel beam and a wooden purlin. A purlin shoe is welded to the steel beam, in which a wooden purlin fits. Various profiles can be used to create the purlin shoe, for example U- and L-shaped profiles. The purlin shoe is provided with holes, so the wooden purlin can be fixed using hexagon head wood screws.

Before you start
Create a steel beam and a purlin.
- Activate the component.
- Select the steel beam (=main part(1) part that exists in a building object and that determines the position number for the assembly or cast unit and the direction of assembly or cast unit drawings
(1) Main part can be an assembly main part or a cast unit main part.
(2) input part that the user selects first when creating a component
(2) Connections and details always have a component main part.
- Select the wooden purlin (= secondary part(1) part that exists in a building object and that is connected to the main part
(1) Secondary part can be an assembly secondary part or a cast unit secondary part.
(2) input part that the user selects after selecting the component main part when creating a component
(2) A component can have none, one or more component secondary parts.
- The connection is created.

In the Picture tab the shoe profile offset, base platecomponent object that represents a plate welded to a column base
Base plates are used to distribute the concentrated load of the column over a wider area.

|SHOE SECTION - Profile||In this field the shoe profile is defined. If this field is left empty, the shoe profile shape will be accordingly to the selected Section type option (see the field below).|
|SHOE SECTION - Section type||In this selection field the shoe profile section type can be defined. This field is only applied when no profile is defined in the Profile field (see the field above).
The following options are available:
Which profile is used depends on the wooden purlin width. The shoe profile has to be chosen so that the wooden purlin fits the shoe, without the wooden purlin needing to be notched.
Library profiles are used, except using the last two options (U-shaped bended plate and L-shaped bended plate). Using these two options, the option Create shoe as can be set, in which can be defined if the U- or L-shaped profile is created as a Folded Plate or a Polybeam. The option Polybeam has the advantage an unfolded bent plate drawing with bent lines can be created.
|1||Shoe profile width. If a library section (UNP, UPE, INP,IPE, L) is defined in the Section type field, a width has to be defined which corresponds with the library profiles.
For example: If the section = UNP, then "80" is a legit value (because this profile exists in the library). The value "90" is not a legit value, because the library does not contain a UNP90-profile.
When an invalid value is used, the shoe profile will disappear.
|2||Shoe profile flange height. This field only applies for Section type options U-shaped bended plate and L-shape bended plate.|
|3||Shoe profile flange thickness. This field only applies for Section type options U-shaped bended plate and L-shape bended plate.|
|Shoe reference line||Position of the shoe profile reference line.|
|L position||Shoe profile position, if the profile is L-shaped. The options are Left and Right, see the following example:
|Create shoe as||If in the Section Type field is chosen for a U-shaped bended plate or L-shaped bended plate, this field can be used to define how the plate is created. There can be defined if the U- or L-shaped profile is created as a Folded Plate or a Polybeam.
|It is not possible to create unfolded bent plate drawings from Folded plates.
If a unfolded bent plate drawing is desired, use the Polybeam option.
The Holes tab the holesmall hollow open throughout a part or assembly that is usually used for fastening parts with bolts or other such objects
Hole is created in the same way as bolts and hole properties are defined in the bolt properties.

|Standard||Bolt assembly standard/grade. The default value is
|Hole size||Hole diameter. The default value is
|Assembly type||Define whether the bolts are assembled on Site or in the Shop. The default value is Site.|
|Slotted hole X and Y||Slotted hole dimensions can be set in x- and y-direction. These fields can also be used to set the tolerance of oversized and tapped holes.
|1||Number of holes - vertical|
|2||Center to center distance - vertical|
|3||Hole edge distance - vertical. Edge distance is the distance from the center of a hole to the edge of the part.|
|4||Number of holes - horizontal|
|5||Center to center distance - horizontal|

|Vertical offset||Vertical shift between bolt groups.
If on both sides of the shoe profile the purlin is screwed at the same height, chances are the screws hit each other. In order to prevent this, one hole pattern can be vertically shifted. In this way, the screws cannot hit each other. The default value is
Pay attention!: the vertical offset can only be used when the vertical edge distance fields of the bolt group which has to be shifted are left empty. If a value is used in these fields, the edge distance is applied and the vertical shift does not occur.

In the Extra weld parameters tab is defined how the shoe profile is connected to the main part.
|Connect parts as||Define how the shoe profile is connected to the main part. The following options are available:
Secondary part of welding
When using the option Secondary part of welding, the shoe profile is dimensioned and labeled as a welded part in the assembly drawing. It is not possible to create a separate assembly drawing of the shoe profile.
When using the option Sub-assembly the shoe profile is added as sub-assembly. It is possible to create a separate assembly drawing of the shoe profile.
In the assembly drawing of the main part the position of the sub-assembly is dimensioned, but the dimensions of the sub-assembly parts is not. This is because this sub-assembly is already fabricated when it is welded to the main part. This results in a better readable assembly drawing.
Modifying the connection type Secondary part of welding < > Sub-assemblyassembly in a nested assembly that is subordinate to a parent assembly
Set the desired connection type before creating the components.
It is not possible to change the connection type afterwards.
If the connection type must be changed afterwards, the connection must be deleted and recreated with the modified component setting.
