Export to 3D DGN files

You can export selected parts or the whole model to 3D DGN.

Note that 3D DGN export supports parts only.

  1. Open a Tekla Structures model.
  2. On the File menu, click Export > 3D DGN .

The Export 3D DGN dialog box opens.

  3. In the Output file box, enter the name of the export file.

If you want to replace an already existing file, click the ... button and browse for the file.

  4. In the Export list, select All objects , or Selected objects and select the parts to export.

It might be a good idea to filter out minor secondary parts, for example, curved parts from railings, if you do not need them in the exported DGN model. This decreases the export file size.

  5. Click Create.

Tekla Structures creates the <name>.dgn file in the current modelmodel that is active in Tekla Structures

The current model can be a single-user model, a shared model or a working model.

In 3D DGN export, you can only export to the model originglobal coordinate system point of origin used for the model

Model origin is the default project base point.

. Changing the work planeplane that the user has chosen in a model and that is currently active for working on in a model view

Newly created, copied, or moved model objects comply with the work plane. For example, shifting the work plane to follow a sloped plane makes it easier to model sloped structures.

    has no effect to export.

If you have tubular parts in your model and you want to reduce the size of the DGN files or the complex display in the rendered views, you can use the following advanced optionssettings used to customize Tekla Structures for specific companies, standards, users, or user groups

In Tekla Structures, advanced options are settings that are used, for example, in a specific project or geographical area, or by a specific company.

In Tekla Structures, advanced options usually begin with the initials XS and are followed by the name of the function, for example XS_BACKGROUND_COLOR.
