The information here is meant for administrators or advanced users who need to manage licenses for other users. For end-user licensing instructions, see Install and license Tekla Structures instead.

Tekla Structures uses FlexNet (FlexNet Publisher License Management) licensing system by Flexera Software. We provide our own Tekla Structures -specific tools for managing the licenses on top of the common FlexNet platform, replacing some of the standard tools you may have encountered when using other software products that use FlexNet for licensing.

Tekla Structures holds licenses in trusted storage. This means that Tekla Structures does not support three-server redundancy, where licenses are held in license files. However, you may have any number of license servers, and use search paths for defining and finding them.

You activate the licenses on your license server using an entitlement certificate, which is sent to the contact your organization names when buying a license. If you do not receive the email with your entitlement certificate, please contact your local Tekla office.

Main features

The main features of the activation-based FlexNet licensing system:

  • You can update and renew licenses easily.

  • You can create user groups with different access rights for different Tekla Structures configurations.

  • You have multiple options for managing licenses. You do not have to activate all of the licenses on the same license server. You can activate some of the licenses on a common server and the rest locally on each user’s computer, for example. You can easily change the location of the licenses by deactivating them on one license server and activating on another.

  • You can handle licenses efficiently. When you activate licenses on a license server in a local area network, they can be used as so called floating licenses. When a user starts Tekla Structures , a license is checked out from the license server. When a user closes Tekla Structures , the license is checked in and becomes available for another user.

  • You can use Tekla Structures offline by borrowing licenses.
