Trimble Connector and other interoperability improvements

Trimble Connectorfeature that enables interoperability between Tekla Structures and Trimble Connect application

now has a new markup functionality, and there are also some improvements in Unitechnic (79), NC and BVBS export.

Trimble Connector improvements

New Trimble Connect ribbon tab and Quick Launch commands

  • You can now use ribbon commands to launch Trimble Connect Desktop , Trimble Connect Web and Trimble Connector :

  • Now you can also launch these applications using Quick Launch :

  • You need to login using your Trimble Identityuser account to Tekla online services and other Trimble services

For a Tekla Structures user, Trimble Identity is a single sign-on account which enables the user’s online identity management. The organization that the user’s Trimble Identity belongs to, determines the user’s access rights. Trimble Identity is needed, for example, for Tekla Campus and Tekla Warehouse, and to log in to Tekla User Assistance.

to open Trimble Connect Desktop , Trimble Connect Web or Trimble Connector. For more information and to log in, see http://connect.trimble.com/.
  • When you launch Trimble Connect Web :

    • Trimble Connect Web opens the Trimble Connect project attached to the Tekla Structures model.
    • If you have attached a project, the project activity page is opened.
    • If you have not attached a project, Trimble Connect main page is displayed.
  • When you launch Trimble Connect Desktop :
    • Trimble Connect Desktop opens the desktop project attached to the current Tekla Structures model.
    • If you have not attached a project, Trimble Connect Projects page is opened.
    • If you have not installed Trimble Connect Desktop , the web page Trimble Connect Applications will be opened. There you can download Trimble Connect Desktop.
  • When you launch Trimble Connector :

    • Trimble Connector opens, and you can attach a project if you have not done that earlier. For more information about using Trimble Connector , see Trimble Connector.

New markups in Trimble Connector ToDo notes

You can now create ToDo markups in Trimble Connector and show the markups in Tekla Structures and in Trimble Connect.

To create a markup in your ToDo, open a Tekla Structures model and a Trimble Connect project, create the markups in the model, create a ToDo, select the related model objects from the model, and save the ToDo.

For more information about creating the markups, see Create markups in ToDo notes.

The markup toolbar contains the following buttons:

  • removes all clip planes from all model views.

  • removes all markups from the model.

  • creates a measurement markup. In the model, pick two points and then a point to place the measurement. You can pick points, edges or part faces.

  • creates a cloud markup. In the model, pick the cloud center and a position on the cloud edge. Tekla Structures creates the cloud perpendicular to the view planeplane in a space that defines the view

In Tekla Structures, the grids are projected onto the view plane and the grid lines can be visible on it.

View depth is defined starting from the view plane.

defined by the center location you picked.

  • creates a line markup. In the model, pick the start point and the end point. The arrow is created at the start point.

  • creates a text markup consisting of text or UDA / Report attribute and a leader lineline that connects an annotation object to the related object or point

. Type the text or a prefix in the markup text box, select a UDA or Report attribute from the list, pick the leader line start point, and then pick a location for the text.

To add more UDA or Report attributes in your own attributes list, or add new attributes to the Text markup attribute options list so that they are available for selection, click the Maintain text markup attribute options button in the bottom-right corner. The Text markup attribute options dialog box is displayed:

Here you can select the UDA or Report attributes that you want to add in markups, and add new attributes using the options at the top. To add an assembly attribute, remember to select the assembly check box. The plus (+) button adds the defined attribute in the list.

  • creates a pencil or freehand markup. In the model, pick a start point, move the mouse pointer to create the shape that you want (do not hold down the left mouse button), and pick the end point. Tekla Structures creates the markup perpendicular to the view plane defined by the start point you picked.

Unitechnik (79) improvements

  • You can now add spacer type information to the first layer of the reinforcement (Unitechnik reinforcement type 1). The spacer type is added to the respective spacer type block in the rodstock within the Unitechnik file. You can do this by using the Spacer type setting on the Reinforcement tab. The options are:

Automatic : Calculates the spacer type automatically according to the cover thickness. The cover thickness is divided by 5 and rounded up to the nearest integer. For example, if the cover thickness is 21 - 25 mm, the spacer type is 5, and if it is 26 - 30 mm, the spacer type is 6.

User defined spacer type : Enter the spacer type to be input in all first layer rebars.

No : Leaves 0 as spacer type.

  • You can now set the rotation of the meshreinforcement that represents a mesh of steel bars in two perpendicular directions

In Tekla Structures, the reinforcement mesh bars in one direction are called main bars and reinforcement mesh bars perpendicular to them are called crossing bars.

plane in the export file by using the new option Turned to pallet of the setting Export meshes as on the Reinforcement tab. When you select this option, all meshes will be individually rotated in line with the pallet axes.

  • On the embeds tab, you can now specify embedbuilding object that represents an object that is to be cast into a concrete structure and that is used to connect structures or as an aid when constructing a structure

For example, a cast-in socket is an embed that is placed in concrete structures to allow parts to be bolted together on site. In Tekla Structures, embeds are modeled as steel sub-assemblies that are inside a concrete nested assembly.

Z coordinate positions to be set as Z = 0. Then all exported mountparts will be plotted on the level of the pallet. In the spec_assemblies_def.txt file, the special assembly symbol plotting for Z=0 is pallet , for Minimum to pallet bottom and for Start point middle.
  • There are two more new settings on the embeds tab: Using All cutouts as corner symbols , you can export rectangular cutouts as 4 corner symbol mount parts. You can define the size of the symbol in the dialog box.

Using Opening with corner symbols , you can specify classes of embeds for openings that will be exported with corner symbols instead of mount part symbols.

BVBS improvements

In BVBS export, any tapered groups where the bar legs have the same length are now exported as a normal group. If the length of the legs varies linearly or regularly, the bars are exported as stepped bars, regardless of the group type or spacing type.

If you set the option Export stepped bars as separate items to Yes , stepped bars are exported as separate items with sub-item numbers.

NC/DSTV improvements

  • You can now select whether to convert I profiles to T profiles when a flange is missing by using the new setting Convert I profile to T profile when flange is missing located on the Advanced Options tab.

  • On the same tab, the new option Skip unnecessary points allows you to select whether to keep or skip the points that are almost collinear.
