Colors in drawings

Colors in drawings

You have three basic color modes for line colors in drawings: Black and white , Gray scale , and Color. By default, drawings are black and white.

In addition to the three basic color modes, you can have a black background and colored lines in drawings (advanced option XS_BLACK_DRAWING_BACKGROUND ).

In addition to the actual colors, you can specify a special color that is not converted to black in printouts.

When you are printing, you can also change the line thicknesses of different colors. This setting affects printouts but also the line thicknesses in color drawings on the screen, if you have selected Printer line widths in File menu > Settings.

Colors and gray shades

The table below shows the basic colors available in Tekla Structures drawings, and how the different colors are shown in black and white drawings and in grayscale drawings. The corresponding pen numbers referring to the line thicknesses used in the printed drawings are listed in the Pen column.

Colors in drawing hatches

In drawing hatches/fills, there are more gray colors available. These additional gray colors are true grays , which means that they are also printed as such.

Is there a way to have orange not print in the new printer, similar to the way the old printer worked? In the new printer, orange prints just like any other color. We have a lot of company standards developed that require anything orange to only be visible in the Tekla drawing environment and not the printed PDF.

Hi Davve,
I will try to find this out and get back to you. Thanks for the question.

Best regards,
Päivi

Hi,
I got the following answer to my question. The output colors are defined in the Print Drawings dialog box on the Line properties tab:

"I guess one thing that could be tried is to change the output colour of orange to white, note the output colours are only used in colour mode, not grayscale or black and white. It should be possible the set up the output colours the match the desired grayscale colours and print in colour mode. The special colour would be printed as is though, so that special colour advanced options may need to be updated as well."

Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Päivi
