1   Common to all US Roles

1.1   Environment ini files

The following variable was added to the US environment ini files:

- Added 
  • XS_DRAWING_CLONING_IGNORE_CHECK – this variable was added and set to TRUE. This variable will allow you to clone(performed by Tekla Structures) to create a new drawing by using a cloning template

    Cloning aims at using the drawing properties, view properties, and object properties from the cloning template in a new drawing.

    Drawings can be cloned from the current model or another model.

    Cloned drawings need some manual checking.

    from drawings with the "all parts deleted" flag.

1.2   Catalogs

Bolt Catalog / Bolt Assembly Catalog

The following Bolt/Bolt Assemblies have been added to the US environment bolt catalogs.

The Short name for all A325 and A490 bolt assemblies have been updated to include their ASTM designation. For example; the Short name for A325N bolt assemblies has changed from A325N to ASTM F3125 Gr A325N. As a result of this change, the TS_Report_Inquire_Bolt and 150 Bolt Id list reports have been updated accordingly.

Applications and Components Catalog

Now you can define the order of groups in the Applications and Components catalog, so in the US environments the order has been localized in each role. Here is the new order;

  • Role groups - only one role group is visible by default which is based on...
    • the model templatemodel which is used as a basis for creating new models

      The user can save a model including all its elements, such as object properties, certain settings, parts, and components, in a model template.

    • the role you are in if no model template was used to create the model.
  • Custom Components - available only if a model template was used to create the model
  • Macros - macros visible by default are determined by the role you are in. 

1.3   Modeling

Two new Bolt attributes are available to help users see how staggered holesmall hollow open throughout a part or assembly that is usually used for fastening parts with bolts or other such objects

1.4   User-Defined Attributes

The following change was made to the objects.inp file used by all roles.

  • Preliminary mark - is now a unique attribute. This means that a value entered in this UDAobject property created by the user in order to widen the range of predefined object properties

    User-defined attributes are used when the predefined object properties are not sufficient but more properties are needed. For example, comment, locked, and erection status are user-defined attributes.

  • Load bearing - the available options have been updated. In addition, the default option (Bearing) will not be applied to an object like it did in previous versions.
 
  • Concrete Cover - these new attributes are available within concrete objects.

Custom Components

Edge AnglesThis custom component is similar to the Pourstop custom component but instead of creating bent plates (polybeampart of a certain shape that is created as a continuous chain of beams passing through points that the user picks

The segments of the polybeam are straight, but segment intersections can be curved. For example, a beam that follows a zigzag line is a polybeam.

1.7   Templates

Settings

The following template setting files have been updated.

  • Contentattributes_global.lst – updated to support several new attributes, such as IS_READY_FOR_ISSUE, READY_FOR_ISSUE_BY, USAGE and USAGE_VALUE.
  • Contenttypes.lst - updated to support new LOAD and LOADGROUP types.
  • Convtemplate_attributes.map - removed FATHER_ID which is no longer in use.

 

Better handling of Cold-rolled Profile + Gage Material

Some projects include cold-rolled objects that do not require a profile prefix (for example, 8X25C16). If such objects are set as Gage material (for example, SHT16GA), the resulting profile would be listed as SHT16GAX25C16, which is not desired. The 8 should not be dropped from the profile string. Therefore templates (and reports) that included a condition in the profile field formularule stated in a mathematical language

Formula is part of an equation.

for handling Gage material have been updated so the formula also works from the cold-rolled objects with no profile prefix. The improved result in this example would be SHT16GA8X25C16. This update does not affect objects with profile prefixes that are set as Gage material. In those situations, the output profile is the same as it was in previous versions.

2   Steel Detailing     

2.1   Steel Detailing Role

The Steel Detailing Role was created to include only the items needed to use Tekla Structures for Steel Detailing and Steel Fabrication. This Role combines the contents of the environment folders with the contents of the us_roles\steel folders. The Role_Steel_Detailing.ini file located in the usimp (usmet) folder runs after the env_US_imperial.ini (env_US_metric.ini) file is run. 

2.2   Model Template

The Steel Detailing role’s model template has been updated to support the new/updated Custom Components.

2.3   User-Defined Attributes

There are no role specific User-Defined attributeobject property created by the user in order to widen the range of predefined object properties

2.4   Reports

  • 150   Bolt Id list - to support the changes to the Bolt Assembly Catalogcatalog that displays bolt assemblies and their properties

    (see section 1.2 above), this report was updated to use Grade, not Short name.
  • 350   Stud List - There was a sorting problem with this report which has been fixed.

2.5   Templates

- Added

When Gather Sheets are created, the two left columns of the style 4 BOM were not used. Therefore, they were removed for Gather Sheets, but not for Multi-Drawings. The modified template needed to be saved with this new name and updated in the drawing layoutplan of a drawing that includes the table layout and definitions of the sheet size

Tekla Structures includes several predefined drawing layouts, which are drawing-type specific. The user can also create new drawing layouts.

(see section 2.6).

  • TypeM-Drg_GatherBOMs - the left side of this template was cropped which allows for better automatic drawing viewdrawing view that Tekla Structures creates when it creates a drawing

    A drawing can include several drawing views, which usually are two-dimensional views, plane views, to the model.

    Examples of drawing views in Tekla Structures include main views, section views, single-part views, and 3D views.

All Drawing attributes have been updated to use the new/renamed Layouts mentioned above.

Prior to v2017, the TypeA_Site_Bolts template was only included in the AssyCallOff drawing layout. It is now part of the following drawing layouts/table layouts.

- Gather Sheets

When Gather Sheets are created, the two left columns of the style 4 BOM were not used. Therefore, they were removed for Gather Sheets, but not for Multi-Drawings. The modified template needed to be saved with a new name (as mentioned above in section 2.5) and updated in the drawing layout. Because of these template changes, the following drawing layout/table layouts were updated.

Assembly Drawing Attribute changes

The following Assembly Drawingdrawing that shows fabrication information for a basic or a nested assembly, including bolts and welds, and that is generally used at the workshop

Assembly drawings show how parts are located in an assembly. They contain the parts of the assembly presented in one or more views.

  • Handrail_with_BOM - changed default size to 24x36. Set view coordinate system to model so handrail assemblies are shown on drawings like they appear in the model.
  • Ladder_Caged_with_BOM - changed default size to 24x36.
  • Ladder_with_BOM - Set view coordinate system to local so ladder assemblies are shown laying down on drawings.
  • Stair_Stringers_with_BOM - changed default size to 24x36.
  • Stairs_with_BOM - changed default size to 24x36.
  • USHandrail - Set view coordinate system to model so handrail assemblies are shown on drawings like they appear in the model.

3   Engineering     

3.1   Engineering Role

The Engineering Role was created to include items an engineer needs to use Tekla Structures. This Role combines the contents of the environment folders with the contents of the us_roles\engineering folders. The Role_Engineering.ini file, located in the usimp (usmet) folder, runs after the env_US_imperial.ini (env_US_metric.ini) file is run.

The following variables were modified in this role’s ini file:

  • XS_DEFAULT_MODEL_TEMPLATE - this variable was updated to use the new name of this role's default model template (Engineering).

3.2   Model Templates 

The Engineering role’s model template has been updated to support the new/updated Custom Components.

3.3   Modeling

The Object Representationrepresentation of a model object or an object group in a model view, such a representation being based on the color and transparency settings applied to the model object or the object group

This Role combines the contents of the environment folders with the contents of the us_roles\precast folders. The Role_Precast_Detailing.ini file located in the usimp (usmet) folder runs after the env_US_imperial.ini (env_US_metric.ini) file is run.

A new PrecastByPass.ini file is now available.

4.2   Model Template

The Precast Detailing role’s model template has been updated to support the new/updated Custom Components.

4.3   Modeling

There are no role specific Modeling changes that affect Precast Detailing other than those mentioned above in the Common section.

4.4   User-defined Attributes

There are no role specific User-Defined attribute changes that affect Precast Detailing other than those mentioned above in the Common section.

4.5   Reports

There are no role specific Report changes that affect Precast Detailing other than those mentioned above in the Common section.

4.6   Drawings

5   Cast In Place / Rebar Detailing     

5.1   Cast In Place (or Rebar Detailing) Role

The Cast In Place (and Rebar Detailing) Role was created to include only the items needs to use Tekla Structures for Cast In Place / Rebar Detailing projects. This Role combines the contents of the environment folders with the contents of the us_roles\castinplace folders. The Role_Cast_In_Place.ini (or Role_Rebar_Detailing.ini) file located in the usimp (usmet) folder runs after the env_US_imperial.ini (env_US_metric.ini) file is run.

A new CipByPass.ini file is now available.

5.2   Model Template

The Cast In Place (and Rebar Detailing) role’s model template has been updated to support the new/updated Custom Components.

5.3   Modeling

There are no role specific Modeling changes that affect Cast in Place other than those mentioned above in the Common section.

5.4   User-defined Attributes
