Model dump can be used to save the model in problematic situations and it can be imported into a new model.

Model dump is used in Tekla Structures until version 2017. See model import.

and reading the model dump to a new model is one way of saving your work. Model dump creates an ASCII file that contains the entire model including views and drawings.

You may need to use a model dump if you cannot save, or cannot delete ghost parts, for example. It is the last effort to repair a model after the Diagnose and repair commands have been performed without success.

Model dump process:

  1. Make a backup copy of the entire model.

  2. Create a model dump.

  3. Create a new model.

  4. Read the model dump to a new model.

  5. Confirm that the model is working.

  6. Copy some files from the original model folderfolder that is used for storing files associated with a model

Tekla Structures stores all files associated with a model in a folder it creates with the same name as the model database (.db1).

In multi-user mode all users access the same model folder.

    to the new model folder.

If you are an advanced user, you can modify the dump file with a standard text editor.

For example, if you know the ID of a corrupted part, you can search for the ID in the file and delete the data related to the ID. For more information, see Using a model dump file.
