How to create Contour Marking for Steel Beams (CNC Machine Data)

You can add contour marking information to your DSTV/NC files with the new contour marking settings available in Tekla Structures 17.0 and above.

You can define how the parts are contour marked: by punching or by powder marking or both.

To access the contour marking settings, click File > Export > Create NC Files...

Click the Contour marking... button in the NC Files dialog box above (highlighted).

Click Add if the default line is not there (a default line will be added as shown above)

You can choose Punch or Powder and the hard stamp, details of the contour marking settings below:

Click ok, as the default settings works for most of the situations. You will receive the following message

Check create, check contour marking, choose Selected parts, select the beam and finally click “create”.

Bottom left corner will Tekla Structures Screen will say “NC File(s) has been written”.

You can also see the contour marking in the model. Shown Below:

This will create the NC1 file for the beam with contour marking. You can open the model folder and open the *.nc1 file in a text editor

Check the KO and PU blocks for punch and powder markings.

If you open the file in a DSTV viewer you should be able to see the stiffener and cleat locations, shown below:
